Photographer’s Note

On the steps of the Cathedral in Habana Vieja, these young people are waiting and watching the people passing in the Plaza.

Waiting is a common passtime in Cuba.

People watching is one reason to go to the Plaza de la Catedral.

They are waiting for mothers with children. When they see some, a backpack with children's clothing to sell will appear from nowhere.

This is how they can afford the stylish clothes they are wearing.

I don't know if what they were doing was forbidden, but it had a furtive air to it that I tried to capture in this image.

As the background was almost entirely grey anway, I desaturated it even more to make the subjects stand out from the background.
