Photographer’s Note

This portrait is for Agnieszka and Horatiu.

It was a sunny saturday morning when a event of the local office of the communist party took place at plaza major in Trinidad. Some people got decorations or certificates for their working performance. The girl was one of the singers. Cuban music has got something... :)
I hope that hurrican Ike left this marvellous town as it was.

Technically seen it was the first time I wished to have bought the IS (with image stabilizer) version of my lense....to reduce the tremble effect ;)

Hi Chris!

Fantastic portrait, the framing is as tight as it gets (a great job in framing, no doubt), excellent light managment! The thoughtful look in her eyes, that calm but steady force behind them is the strongest thing in this beautiful photo. It isn't as sharp as it gets, but I am not a fan of "crispy" sharp portraits anyway! Congratulations!

Two cm more at left.. the sight not falling down, but look straight - directly to youre camera and we - me and a specially invited joyful company of TE members in Cracow are openning the champagne tonight!!! To Christian! To his Cuban mastepieces..

Only details serparates you from the noble genius..
You are so close.. so responsible position.. so dramatic question, if you'll manage to gain the top..

This portrait is a marvel by its quality and especially by its construction thanks to the centring which you realized. The curved lines of the scarf, the eyebrows, the eyes and the mouth add another effect of sweetness and charm which colors already gave.

hello Christian,
the only comment I have is that I might prefer a slightly sharper image (especially the little lights in her eyes), but even that is a minor point. superb portrait, the tight framing makes it very personal. and I actually like the downcast look, I find it emphasises the contemplative mood of the moment. beautiful work, my compliments.

Congratulations! On another fantastic picture, most photos I seen from Cuba have something to do with either a cigars or an old car. I like the difference there is in looking at your pictures. Do not take me wrong, I just love those old cars, but different is good. Thanks

Hallo Christian! Sie hat wunderschoene Augen und ich finde den Kopfschmuck mit diesen Tuechern immer so spannend. Lustig wie die goldigen Ohrenringe glaenzen, ein klein wenig Luxus, das muss sein, und man stellt anderes auf die Seite, es muss einfach warten :) Zum Glueck ticken wir Frauen auf der ganzen Welt gleich, das verbindet uns, no matter where. Ja der Sturm war heftig und das Disaster offensichtlich und es wird ein Thema bleiben, immer mehr. Tolle Portrait-Arbeit, da zoegere ich immer noch etwas aber nicht mehr so wie vorher. bellssimo ritratto che colpisce per nitidezza e per la bella tonalità.
La donna ha un'espressione intensa e ne hai tirato fuori il massimo.
Il punto di forza è comunque lo sguardo intenso della donna cubana con quegli occhi neri ardenti.

continua la tua bella serie di foto cubane, con il bel volto di questa donna cubana.
Il viso è splendidamente incorniciato e la nitidezza dell'immagine è tale che solo lo sguardo intenso della ragazza riesce a nascondere in parte i riflessi nei suoi occhi.

non faccio molti ritratti, soprattutto da quando mi hanno rubato lo zoom e sono costretto ad avvicinarmi e farmi vedere.
A maggior ragione per questo apprezzo questo tuo scatto "tutto aperto=>pochissima profondita'" che cattura un'espressione molto naturale. Complimenti, Dario.
PS Quanto mi manca il mio 70-200 f4...

Hi Christian,
Indeed, it is a lovely portrait.
You perfectly selected a wide aperture (f/2.8) so depth of field is very narrow. A subject (beautiful face) is sharp, while (neck and dress) is nondistracting blur.
Your info shows that you used 200mm lens. I am interesting how far have you been from the subject when you took that shot?
