Photographer’s Note
Well, my friends, dedicate me some minutes tonite, I wanna tell you a story.
Cuba is once again extraordinary, like in many other things, also in hitchhiking.
A lot of people there do not own cars, so hitchhing is very common everywhere. It's easy to find dozen of hitchhikers along the road.
Cars and buses have different numer plates according to the type of vehicle (I'll try to remember by memory): cars rented by tourists have a red one, private (a few) are yellow, diplomatic are brown and so on...
The blue ones are of the state and, as the state pays the fuel, they are obliged to stop when hitchhikers ask!
This is not all, there are also "policemen" dedicated to verify that this rule is respected, they wear a yellow uniform, and, because of this, they are called "amarillos".
But when they are not around it's difficult that drivers stop, so often you see hitchhikers showing money to "sponsor" their request.
In WS you'll find other examples.
P.S. the vehicles are not obliged to stop if they have tourists on...

Hello Giorgio,
This is a fine documentary of a typical Cuban phenomenon!
The tele compression adds a 3D feeling to the scene, which is well composed with the road as an effective lead-in...
Colourful, and the note says it all..!

Helo Giorgio,
A fascinating note and a striking photo, although I actually find your second WS image communicates the activity more clearly.
