Everywhere you go in Cuba you can see great street life. The people there are polite, easy going, and un-selfconscious about being photographed, making it a good place to get little portraits like this. Trinidad is a very colourful and historic place, giving the buildings some outstanding colour. While the city is undergoing some restoration work, there are still lots of places that have a great, unrestored character feeling, like this building. Trinidad is a very photogenic place, and after Havana is one of the most historic and interesting places in Cuba to visit. The city is one of the oldest in the Americas, established almost 500 years ago in 1514 - the man looks only slightly younger.

maybe you could try to another angle. Facial expression is good.

Magnifique image de ce vieil homme de Cuba. Superbes couleurs et excellente clarté d'image. J'aime bien ce genre de photos et je dois dire que ta note est très intéressante.
Bonne fin de semaine!

Classic image from Cuba. It has been ten years since I was in Trinidad and, seemingly, nothing has changed. But I guess that will change soon given El Fidel's declining health.
Good use of the colourful background to complement this colourful character who is smoking a... hey wait... a cigarETTE. This cannot possibly have been taken in Cuba. It must be a staged photo from somewhere else.

Beautiful use of the wll to add colour to the photo.
Its nicely composed. I wonder what was at the right as I think that if you had a nice perspective with the long wall leading to the man would be even better

this is a surprise - a pleasant one!
The guy in his indigo jeans is a character, but what makes this shot for me is a strong colour contrast and always beautiful derelict walls.
And that blue door... yummy!
abulafia (4900) 2007-02-09 19:06
Great portrait, the yellow texture and color behind the guy, really works well here. Very nice work
Have a nice weekend

He’s pose spectacular while getting great pleasure of smoke that easily recognizable from his body language at inside of magnificently contrasted façade. You finished your splendid photo almost in few colors that I liked a lot. Your photo has included excellent contrasts. Congratulations.

Good Evening. I think your perspective on the streets of Trinidad are very interesting. An interesting capture of culture with this interesting older character. I love the surrounding colors of bright yellow and green gate/door. The space around this old man brings a special appeal to this photo. You have caught him in his world..boots and all. Nice one Alvin!

Nice work, it looks like a painting!

I like the vertical division roughly into thirds, with the cooler cyan colour in the centre, sandwiched between the warmer shades of yellow. Fantastic daily life scene. Tfs!

You have captured a very interesting character here. Great vivid colors and very sharp. What background. Well done.

The background colours make the man stand out very well here - great POV - great image :)

Your photo is interesting. Super colors! Good frame. Well done.

Gret portrait, Alvin. His skin tones contrast very nicely with the aqua paint behind him. He's full of character but a bit old and worn--just like the building! You caught a great look on his face--casual curiosity, unapprehensive. I prefer the original to the workshop. Regards, Ken.
lestans (17030) 2007-02-10 11:59
what a vivid portrait!!
It could look like a simple photo... but it is so rich! Rich of colors and shapes, and the man's attitude is so vivid!
Thank you for sharing!!

Very unique shot, Alvin. I like the angle you took this from with the man as a contrast to the wall and gate. The expression on the man's face is so well captured. Great composition with fabulous colours, amazing details and fantastic quality! Great work, Alvin!
scalerman (26900) 2007-02-10 15:30
Alvin: Cuba, maybe like India is huge in plaster textures and ancient paint. I think that's what combines in this expressive image. Great, candid, casual portraiture. regards, c
vesalius (861) 2007-02-10 20:19
Hey Alvin, what vivid spectacular colours. Did you up the saturation a bit, or are they simply that beautiful? The composition and expression of the gentleman is outstanding as well.
PixelTerror (0) 2007-02-11 12:21
Seems some of us will need a little while to get used to your late cuban saturation boost ;-) I don't mind it and here in addition to the nice old thin man I see a lot of nice textures around him, which I like too. It makes me want to go there, not quite possible right now, will just need to listen to this Buena Vista social Club CD one more time...
Have a nice day,
tinamunk3 (6404) 2007-02-11 12:57
Why isn't he smoking Cohiba :O)
I agree with you - Havana and Trinidad are two very interesting and photogenic places on Cuba. It is sure the great colours and structure of the background that makes this image.
singuanti (15250) 2007-02-11 22:05
Hi Alvin. This scene is a photographers dream with all of those excellent colors! I think I prefer your upload over the workshop. This style is very different from you but on a first try you did a great job. Super shot Alvin!

Wow, it looks like you have been branching out lately doing some nice portraits. This is a great shot. I love the colors and the angle and the square crop. It's all wonderful in my opinion. The building and the old man seem to fit each other perfectly. Old, but still colorful and lively.
