Photographer’s Note
There are signs like these all over Cuba. This is one of my favorites, as it has a rare picture of Castro on it. On visiting Cuba, I was surprised to find that Castro is a fairly humble man. Unlike most "dictatorships" in history, there are no grand pictures of him all over every city. In fact this is one of the only times that I saw a grandiose picture of him when I was there. I tried hard to find a souvenir with his picture on it for the three weeks that I was there, with no luck. Everything is Che Guevara. Finally, at the airport on the way home, I noticed a tattered old poster of Castro on the wall behind a kiosk. I got a good laugh when I tried to buy it, but finally I succeeded.
I increased the contrast a little on this shot to bring out the dark cloud over the message.
Very roughly translated, the message means:
"The revolution is going well. Fight, Work, Advance. Follow Ahead!"
Ironically, I took this picture out of the window of the illegal taxi that I had hired to go from Vinales to Cayo Jutias.
