Oh I couldn't resist posting this one, it has a bit of everything that i enjoy - cars, architecture, city streets, and even a bit of humor.
I was getting ready to set up my tripod to photograph the cool looking car (not a surprise), when i noticed this local man walk straight into my line of view.
The look on his face was priceless, and i don't think i even noticed it until after i took the photo. Perhaps he's just a bit annoyed by some tourist with a camera standing in the middle of his street lol
He didn't bother me at all, he just quietly walked on by, we shared a good moment together lol
Of course the car is what initially attracted me to this scene. What's interesting about this street is that it's one of the very few downtown that can actually fit 2 cars, most are quite narrow whereas this one is wide. I'll post a couple of WS photos of the car if you're interested.
thanks for looking

On British TV, there used to be a programme called 'Grumpy Old Men', this guy would fit in perfectly! Great street capture with lots to hold the interest. Perfectly exposed with excellent depth of field. Superb rendering of the textural detail. Great street photography.

superb character study this. I often wonder if people in shots like this ever get to see their face plastered all over the net! These old Chevy cars are just wonderful, like you I would be photographing these more than the amazing street scenes, but putting the two together makes it all so irresistible, grumpy guy or not. Superb!
Regards - B.
Love the workshops too!

I might be surprised by this car, but last days I have see a lot of vintage old cars here. Anyway, excellent oldtimer, good condition for so wet tropical climate.
I even see the old yellow Soviet Lada on the background ;)
Greetings from LA!

Hi Craig, you have raison, this man is like the cherry on the cake, the best element to complete this composition starting from the car, very very old and unique, great scenery with the typical facades of old Habana too,i like it! Have a nice evening and thanks,Luciano

You have really included a surprising number of people in your Cuban photos, sometimes even intentionally! That's probably why I have particularly enjoyed this collection. I guess it's hard to avoid people in a place where most persons seem to spend most of their time in the streets. The grumpy looking guy and the grumpy looking Chevrolet have both seen better days but are still going strong.
All the best,

you´re right-it has a bit of everything and this makes it so interesting for us.Charming architecture,daily-life of Havana and finally the car(or should we better say a piece of art:)?
Superb shot with unique atmosphere!

interesting addition to the series, of all the shots you have posted, this is the first with a Grumpasaurus Rex in it! Usually the people here all seem so friendly and welcoming. Nice to see the other side too, as it compliments your picture.
And despite the grumpy guy, the car looks like its smiling broadly, so cancels him out nicely. Love all the colors in the distance too.

Craig, shots like this that just appear when you were intending something completely different are always wonderful. The expression on this guy's face is priceless. I would guess that Havana is filled with vintage cars like this; how do you ever put your camera away?
jcpix (13914) 2014-04-03 19:13
Ahaha, priceless...this is great! Both the man and car seem to be brimming with personality and expression. One being angry, the other being apathetic. lol
Did you ever get the Keystone Light beer ads up there? If so, do you remember the "bitter beer face?" THIS is your guy alright, oh he's perfect! You couldn't have executed this any better to get the two subjects side by side with this kind of character appeal...it works on every level, especially the humor. :)
These streets must be chuck full of magnetism and atmosphere, and you've done a wonderful job capturing and presenting so much of the cities vibe. You may be hesitant to post bunches, but I sure hope we see 'em...each one carries its own attraction. More please! Have a good one. Take it easy.
Cheers from Phoenix,

Its a great image with the car and the grumpy looking old man.But its sad to see that people are faced to live a life that due to political blindness.I hope they get to see light soon.TFS.

Life in a Cuba street, they seem to have the same face! this man is essential in your picture!

Another fine and interesting street scene. The inclusion of this man is good, it shows that this is a recent picture, not a picture from the age when the car was new. That must have been many decades ago.

A stunning and very natural scene from the streets of Old Havana, where the old car and the old and dilapidated facades, put their decadent taste, people put a pretty vital touch.
Nice color, in these natural tones.
Also both sharpness, such as lighting are great.
Well taken photo. I Like
Enjoy a nice day.

As a dedicated car enthusiast, I love these pictures of that old matt-black Chevvy. The owner obviously loves it because he's bought it a present of some nice spanking new alloy wheels - well, just one anyway!
But, Craig, I've never been to Cuba, so how did you manage to get me in the foreground of your photograph? :)
This is a brilliant photograph of the street and that old black Chevrolet against the decaying facades of the buildings - and do I see either an old orange Fiat or Russian Lada in the distance? - and Mr. Grumpy definitely helps the composition - his sad appearance matches the grumpy grin of the grille of the car perfectly.
Lovely light and colours, perfect exposure and your usual wonderful attention to detail.

A typical Cuba style picture ! It looks like this country is a huge open air car museum ! Did you take closer details of this car ? I think there are such things to do with it ;) By the way, why did you need a tripod for this one ?

Another great looking scene from wonderful Havana. Even though the upper left part is a bit over exposed the over all scene is very well conveyed with fine colours. Love the look of the matt old Chevy and the old facades of coloninal style architecture. Very nice work:)
eldancer1 (36343) 2014-04-06 21:35
I'm surprise he didn't attack you! He does look grumpy maybe he had a hard life. And that car looks like it is being held together with tape. Good pov and dof with nice details. Well done, tfs.
This is what I found out about the High Roller...it just keep on moving very slow. It takes 30 minutes to make one revolution and from what I understand riders just get on or off while the wheel is moving but like I said very, very slow.

C'est une belle série sur les voitures de Cuba, sans oublier l'intérêt de l'architecture
tout semble paisible dans les rues, ce monsieur qui marche tranquillement sur la route comme beaucoup de personnes, bon format et composition
Belle journée a toi

Great capture! Several old cars along the street, nice old architecture and this man passing and looking at you with a funny expression:)! He was probably curious about what you were doing. The black car is really interesting!
