Oh I loved my time in Havana!
I would book a flight to go back there anytime, since my girlfriend doesn't want to go back because of the poor food in Cuba, are there any takers? Anyone want to meet up for a TE meeting in Havana? haha
I can think of a number of TE members who'd love to photograph the cars, and i know a few who'd love to photograph the people. Its the best of both worlds!
And I didn't even mention the architecture yet!
This car was located just around the corner of the Casa we were staying in. After a long day of walking in the hot sun, we were looking forward to resting in bed and re-viewing our photos :)
Kind of like a fishing boat Captain re-viewing his catch of the day!
But before doing so, i just HAD to stop and see this blue beauty. So i set up the tripod and let er rip!
Was the 15 sec exposure needed...no...but its fun.
Hope you enjoy it
If you remember me talking about the 'open door' way of life in Havana, well here's proof. Its late in the evening, close to bedtime, and somebody has their front door wide open. Try doing that where you live!

Sounds like an offer I can't refuse! This is another excellent shot, with the wide angle making the most of the car's size. But it's the warm glow of the street lighting which sets it apart. Nice one.

wonderful shot with excellent lighting,
was worth it the using of the tripod and the 15 sec. exposure,we can recognize every detail of the car, also from the front,
the half-open door behind is a very beautiful detail in picture as well!

another superb one in your old car series. Great capture with a very interesting angle. Love the frame with fine colour tone. Hope to see some people shot from Havana, as you wrote it is a nice place to photograph people too. Great capture in every aspect. Tfs.

Like Will, I think this is an offer I couldn't refuse! I can eat pretty much anything and, provided you have some anti-emetics and a good supply of toilet paper, your guts can usually just about cope with anything you care to throw at them! :o)
No, I shall not tire of seeing your wonderful car shots from Havana and this is an excellent one. I love how you have taken this late in the day and contre jour against the strong warm evening sun which, lighting the surfaces of the car very obliquely, has brought out all the textures and the dull sheen in the old paintwork of this classic big old American machine.
Gorgeous warm light and colours, perfect control of light and shadows and exquisite depth of field and sharpness.

Un voyage à la Havane ne peut pas se passer pour un photographe sans des photos de vieilles américaines. Elles y sont à leur mieux. J'aime l'heure choisie pour cette composition ainsi que l'arrière plan aussi usé qu'elle.

love this one! A beauty of a "banger" and captured so moodily and beautifully. Another Springsteen album cover methinks. So much character and wonderful light that makes the atmosphere so palpable. A TE meeting in Havana now that is ambitious - and a great idea.
Yep! we actually had a warm day here yesterday and I even worked up a sweat in the street rather than in the gym! Even had to wear a cap so as not to get a sunburnt dome. Extraordinary! Bring it on.....B.

This remain a miracle that these old car remain drive in Cuba.
Your PS ,is here not of application, the last week have thieves my garden all the statues stolen, all fix to the wall or depth in the earth!
We live in a difficult world with people without scruplules.
You took a very nice picture with a lovely composition.
Very well done, TFS.
Have a nice day,

Very fine rusty car. A delicious portrait in the night. Well taken.

I wouldn't mind taking street-shots (of people) in Havana but the idea of poor food really puts me off. Enjoying my meals is more worth to me during a journey even than taking pictures. (Yes, it really is.) I enjoy watching this photo but it may not have occured to me to take this kind of shot.

Judging from your pictures, the streets of Havana, should be like a museum of cars of the 50s, your composition is splendid, with this vision in angle of the vehicle and as the background, the awesome textures of the old facades.
Very good brightness and sharpness.
Well seen and done better. I Like
Have a good day.

The open door is a very beautiful part of this shot, both for what it means as your note, but also for the air of mystery it imbues into the scene. A beautiful car, and the long exposure has created a fantastic result. I really like the shadow at the front of the car.
Thanks as always

Beautiful old car. Interesting shades with public light, without flash.

Wonderful capture of this beautiful antique car that looks as fresh and bright as it did the first day it left the factory. Excellent clear colors and sharp details to this old beauty.

Tu t'es régalé avec ces vieilles américaines de La Havane! Une nouvelle très belle utilisation de ton très grand angle dans un cadrage recherché et un bon travail sur la lumière et les couleurs.

it´s like N.Y-city that never sleeps(referring to the open door). And you´re right about the old cars-Havana seems to be areal paradise, like a huge open-air car museum.
Excellently composed and framed!
I like here the fact, you left so much space on the left with the open door(also because so magnificent color contrast there)
Have a good day

after seeing so many of your beautiful pictures, I can understand your yearning to revisit Cuba :-). all your vintage cars are superbly presented and this one benefits from the angle that you chose to shoot it from. The beautiful contours are a visual treat and the open door provides nice colour variation. Thanks for sharing.

If it were easier to get to Cuba from the States (and if I didn't have a nine month old and a job that make it difficult to drop everything and travel at the drop of a hat) I'd gladly make this trip with you... my only trip to Cuba was a long time ago and I wasn't much for photography then. I don't know what I'd be back for more - the cars maybe, the people maybe, the architecture definitely. And the landscapes, don't forget those - did you have a chance to go to the far western end of the island, to Pinar del Rio? Amazing hills and landscape there.
But all this and nothing about the shot! Great angle and another clinic in effective use of a wide angle by you here, with the distortion working really nicely to emphasize the car and preserve the alley behind. I love the geometry of this shot, actually, though I can't fully explain why. Thanks!

Bonsoir Craig, hi,
Excellent caught of view of this beauty of the 50,
Nice oldy car well taken at 'contre-Jour' at the end of the day,
Excellent POV. and details.. I think it is a Ford fairlane 59 but not shure...:)
ktanska (29037) 2014-03-12 13:57
No, I just can't resist these Cuban car shots. Even though I don't seem to have anything new to say about them. Excepth that the blue light coming through the open door is really weird!
I think this is Ford Fairlane '57.
pierrefonds (70577) 2014-03-18 19:10
The car is well placed in the frame. Using a tripod and a shutter speed of 1/15 of a second is allowing me to see the details and the colours of the 1955 Ford. It also has a special effect on the colors. Have a nice day.
