For my 800th post on TE, I just HAD to post a Car shot!
This is another scene taken in the back streets of Havana in the late evening. Photographing cars is something I love to do, even more so than architecture and city views.
Even as I'm posting this Car photo, i'm watching on TV a Car Auction of Hot Rods & Muscle Cars :)
Oh how I wish to own one of those sexy beasts.
We probably say it alot, but it's worth repeating...TE has become a regular activity in my day to day life, and I enjoy every moment of it.
Being on TE has re-sparked my love for photography, as a few years ago I got away from it. And viewing all your photos from around the world gives me the travel bug every day!
Thanks so much for all your notes, all your kind critiques and your suggestions, your photos and most of all your time and friendship! Its what sets this photo website apart from the others.
See you out there!

Hi Craig, Of course, to celebrate your milestone here on TE what could be better than the old car in back street. And I am sure you had difficulty what old car to choose. The street seems all abandoned. Were you not afraid to go there? yes, TE inspires me much. Earlier I like to travel and I made some photos, now sometimes I travel somewhere TO make photos. The result is the same but the motivation is different. The places that I visited without camera (in the past) do not count :).
I wish you to have still the same fascination for photo, in journeys and at home town as well.

My congratulations on your 800th post! Good reason to take a table in restaurant, for example. ;) Good choice of the photo for so serious event, you are right, sometime I also would like to drive some vintage car with the rock'n'roll sound background.

My neighbour today on TE. Firstly congratulation on 800 postings! And what a way to celebrate with the very atmospheric night time composition. Strange as it may seem for me, I also like the distortion occasioned by the ultra wide angle lens, it suits the mood perfectly. Ideally exposed and with superb detail. Thanks for sharing.

Congratulations for your 800th post and your devotion to TE and getting us to see your work. Here, this is a great night street scene with a bit of a scary mood as the buildings seem to want to engulf the old car. Warm colors and interesting shadow of the car.

Congratulations on your jubilee. This is the kind of photo I would have expected you to post for your celebrations, just as I would have expected you to use a fish-eye for maximum effect. Quite cool, I agree. TE has brought me back to photography too, even though I'm quite satisfied with doing it in a very amateurish way nowadays, with no other intentions than having fun. I really got tired of heavy equipment and was finding it pointless just to keep thousands of photos hidden in my wardrobe. Showing them to the world and getting some feedback is a lot more fun.

A wonderful image to commemorate this milestone. You are a consistent performer here on TE and I have drawn a lot of inspiration from your images and your wonderful commentaries, so that we get a real insight to how you approached and executed the shot. (Including black-eyes! ;-)). Like you I was drifting a bit with my photography, but joining TE rejuvenated my interest and it has become a wonderful way to while away an hour or two admiring fellow contributors images. This image is a real beauty, full of wonderfully moody light and a sense of auto solitude about it. I love your POV and it smacks of the very essence of this amazing City.
Keep em coming Boy!
Enjoy the weekend - B.
Make a good Springsteen album cover this one.

Congratulations on your 800th post! You posted some amazing photos as well as this to mark a milestone with TE. I like the composition and the lighting with good details. Very well done, tfs.
I have stealth camera that can take pictures of stealth airplanes. Red Flag starts Jan 27 to Feb 14 at Nellis Air Force Base with warplanes from different units in the U.S. military as well as air force U.K., Australia and others countries.

Woo-hoo, 800! Impressive mark, with a great...and personalized way to celebrate the milestone....with one of your favorite subjects, it's a Craig kind of shot without doubt! :)
What stands out the most to me here is the fact you didn't alter the white balance, choosing to keep the red and yellow tones. It works sublimely with the light blues scattered throughout the windows and against the darkened sky...that heavy black contrast is well suited for the atmosphere this picture exudes.
A quiet, late night street...but I can virtually hear the chatter and echos from within these walls. A sweet low point of view too, putting us right down on street level...feels like I'm stalking this car. :)
Congrats on the 800, and thanks for being an inspiration...before your pictures, I would have never even thought about photographing cars. You've helped me to "see the light." :) Have a great evening. Take it easy my friend, here's to the next 800+!
SnapRJW (31629) 2014-01-18 22:50
Congratulations Craig on your 800th. A great celebration for you with this unload.... you and your cars! This one makes a great subject and your wide angle lens has given the car and architecture a funkiness which suits the scene really well. I like the hard shadows and general disquiet the artificial light gives the shot. Moody image. I wonder if it would convert well to B&W? I can see it with a 'film noire' type treatment.
Thanks for your dedication to TE, I always look forward to your input here.
Warm regards rosemary

Very well done on achieving 800 posts. I always look for your pictures and particularly enjoy your work with the wide-angle lens. Cuba was a 'must' for you with your love of cars. This deserted looking street and old car is a great example of your work. I look forward to many more images from you.
Best wishes, Ann

Before anything else, CONGRATULATIONS on this your 800th post on TE.
Speaking from experience, I know that you have been inspirational with your photographic style and choices.
You have maintained a consistency in posting, which, for many years I have followed and enjoyed.
It's like evolution, we adapt and change to the experiences and conditions ... photographically speaking, and this site has become an important part of that evolution.
I love to photograph cars, too, mainly old ones, which for me, are full of character.
This looks like the back of something off Starsky and Hutch. I wonder what's in the boot!
Keep posting, Craig.
Have a great Sunday,

hi macintosh. 800 photos in 5 years! you really love TE, and TE loves you. all through these 5 years and 800 photos, probably it turned to happen with you the same as malgo: you should be making your travel plans thinking of the photos you will be sharing with us. well, you have an audience's eye on you, always beware :)
one thing i've learnt from your cuba gallery is that, it is much more a safer place than it has been told to me by some friends. if i were there before seeing your work, i'd probably be having a cocktail in my hotel rather than making nightshots on empty streets. you had the guts, and the result is obviously worth it, no?
the next step is 900th or 1000th? :)

Congratulations on your 800th. This is a lovely photo of a 50s Fairlane (?). I wonder how they keep these thing still running.
worldcitizen (7890) 2014-01-19 13:05
Happy 800th! I really like the atmosphere in this photo. That car seems a little "shady" to me. I feel like it's whispering: "Hey, you...come a little closer..."!! It looks like the kind of car other cars would avoid on a dimly-lit side-street of Havana. Ha ha! It's been great getting to see your first 800 photos here on TE, and read your fun notes. Here's to many more! :-)

Congratulations for your 800th picture on TE.
These picture is very specially through the old American car as real eye catcher on these picture.
This are wonderful memories for my as child after WAR II with these American cars in Belgium
But your picture is very well taken.
Nice done, TFS.
Enjoy the day ahead,

First, congratulations for these 800 photos in TE, a job that feeds the gallery of your good work, I hope we continue to enjoy many hundreds more.
Fabulous perspective, this lonely street, lost in the night, awesome .... low-up of the car, which gives a stunning effect to the composition.
Also both sharpness, such as lighting are great.
Well taken photo. I Like
Enjoy a nice day.

Hi my friend Craig,
you have reached two milestones, the 800th photo published here, and your 5th anniversary in the site. My sincere congratulations!
And about the celebration photo, I must say it's a powerful night image, with a strong escape of lines because of the wide-angle lens, and a dynamic perspective of the car and of the street.
The exposure management is good, and we can notice this in the quality of the image, with a few warm golden tones as well.
A beautiful work.
kato (11630) 2014-01-28 22:22
You're capturing well this scene by a good composition and very excellent tone/clarity, so it's interesting and impressive to see the back street, the tasteful buildings and the classic car which has parked on street in blue hour. It draws out well 3D effect. The blue light from building's window harmonizes well with entire yellow and black color as the spice. And, the shadow of car projected to the street gives the effective impact.
yquem46 (38750) 2014-01-29 11:59
then how to celebrate better than with a car AND architecture !?
Thanks for your continuity in the quality of your posts
Agree with you as concerns the enhanced and renewed motivation for photography thanks to posting on TE, even despite a few frustrations from now and then
Best regards Craig, keep on !
ourania (38952) 2014-02-04 9:08
congratulations on your 800 superb photos and notes, workshop complements, travel information, useful tips! I wish you to continue with the same enthusiasm and show us hundreds more photos from around the world. This is a quiet but very attractive and interesting picture from a backstreet of Havana at night. I like very much how the dynamism of the car fits into that of the setting and I find an association between the car and the balcony on the left. The details on the buildings are intriguing and there's a marvelous combination of warm light and shadows. Congratulations again and thank you!
All the best, have a lovely day,
jemaflor (91279) 2014-02-04 11:21
Great result, congratulations for your 800 th post on TE. Perfect depth effect with the wide angle, pêrfect light capture, I like this golden color and good focal point with this old american/cuban car.
