I've posted 1 photo of a local fisherman in Havana, but it was a close up shot.
So I thought it would be fitting to now show the fishermen as a group :)
On any given evening you could easily walk up to the waterfront and capture dozens of these men, all locals of course, no tourists fishing here!
The man on the left with the fishing pole extended was a bit nasty! He was irritated by the tourists taking photos because when we swung back the fishing line was getting close to hitting people.
At one point he yelled out "Are You Going to Pay Me for That Photo!?" "Get out of My Way!"
I guess he's used to being photographed here and had about enough of it! I actually thought we were standing far back enough...not to his liking anyways.
Well, I still got my shots, had a wonderful time taking in the local daily life and its a memory i'll never forget.
Hope you like it

Wonderful with the silhouettes of these men and their fishing poles nicely on a row and with a view of the skyline at the other side of the bay.
That magnificent sky is a great backdrop and its colours are well reflected in the water.
I hope they could catch something.
Best regards, Paul

Belle photo de ces pêcheurs en silhouette sur ce beau ciel coloré. J'espère que l'image ne t'a pas coûté trop cher!

Lovely abstract with great colors. Love the balance of all the elements in the frame. Well done.

Nice photo, a superb atmosphere. I guess I cand understand the man but only partially. This unfriendly attitude is not right, I hate this wild behaviour, never mind the cause.
Anyway, enjoy a good weekend.

Hello Craig ,
What a beautiful Sunset picture ! I like especially the different postions of the men and their lines . I can understand the attitude of one of the men , if there was a crowd of tourists . On the other hand , this is not a close portrait ...
rbassin (15066) 2014-01-17 0:40
C'est une superbe photo en contre-jour.
J'aime bien ces silhouettes élancées se détachant sur le ciel rougeâtre.

For the right or the wrong reasons, he made this shot memorable! Nothing brings you back like the thought of being shouted at by a stranger.
Still, that aside, he still makes a part of this great result. The sky is like a painting and has a beautiful range of colors, while the golden sun with its reflection on the sea is stunning. The silhouettes look brilliant especially because of the different poses of the men.
Cool shot, and I love the view to the city across the bay.
All the best
annjackman (16859) 2014-01-17 2:25
Glad you got the shot. The line of silhouetted fishermen are very well separated and the different fishing actions make it interesting. Of course the sunset makes it just perfect!
Kind Regards, Ann

Excellent shot of these anglers as silhouettes against the sunset colors of Habana
I like their various attitudes and postures
Excellent ! Have a nice WE, best regards

I reads that the man was a bit nasty against the tourists, why, every photographer makes these moments during take of pictures, people are sometimes very aggresive.
Nice silhouettes of the different fishers.
Perspective and depth make these picture wonderful
This is a wonderful picture with a very nice sharpness and colours.
Very well done, TFS.

hi craig. so, you survived the making of this photo, and it is a great documentary of your survival. splendid silhouettes against bright sun. sometimes locals (or anyone being photographed) can get annoyed at photographers, but then i put myself in their place: i actually like giving poses so i would never be annoyed :)
Royaldevon (24342) 2014-01-17 3:47
Ha! Ha! Craig, people usually want to be photographed, unless they are up to mischief!! I'm glad you were able to get this shot because these figures, silhouetted against the beautiful, harbour sunset make a very eye-catching capture.
It's like one of those flicker pictures. It you separated the images and flicked through them they would appear to show the movements for casting!
Have a great w/e,
mesutilgim (76804) 2014-01-17 4:07
Very nice capture of those fishers in Havana at sunset with good pov and layout.
There is saying in Turkish :"At one end of the fishing pole there is allways a stupid and at the other end seldom a fish" !
TFS and have a nice weekend

Hi dear Craig, This one is a very good example for a contrast light shot.. Different posings of five different fisherman and none of the silhouettes crossing the other one, and all legs are clearly visible, etc.. With the sunset bg, of course I loved it. Thanks for sharing. Congrats.. It's been a real pleasure for me to view all your previous Cuba uploads.

HI Craig,i heard many many times the words of your title in my trips...hehe....this happen very very often, especially where the economy of the visited country isn't good.A magnificent backlight from the Malecon,i like how you play with the fishermen silhouettes in this great scenery and exposure! Have a nice weekend and thanks,Luciano

I do hope you carry full travel insurance on your trips, seem to remember you getting into trouble with the locals in Iceland ;-). I would say though that it was worth the abuse to get this wonderful shot. I love the silhouettes and you caught the action here perfectly. Your light management is truly exceptional too. An intriguing and captivating image. Well worth the black-eye!
Enjoy the weekend - B.

Hello Craig ,
down here were lucky to find just one fisherman to create interest in a sun set shot, here you`ve got half a dozen lining up to have there photo taken, each one in a different pose!
I rather like the way that the one standing on the ends rod is caught mid air whilst the rest are all just fishing.
The evening colours are delightful with the buildings on the distant skyline adding their interest.
Have a good WE,
Sergiom (50636) 2014-01-17 6:28
Une petite merveille cette photo. Les pêcheurs à la ligne en ombres chinoises sont magnifiques devant ce superbe coucher de soleil sur La Havane. Un très beau moment dans la vie d'un photographe.

Ciao Craig, lovely composition with beautiful silhouettes of fishermen, fascinating atnosphere, splendid light and wonderful warm colors, very well done my friend, have a good week end, ciao Silvio

Some models are a nuisance. At least you got yourself a fine photo, hopefully he didn't get any money from you and maybe he didn't get any fish either. But I admit he posed well, as did the other men. The sunset is terrific and their silhouettes are very expressive. The city skyline provides a superb background.
rychem (16466) 2014-01-17 8:18
Beautiful photo with dynamic silhouettes and fantastic sunset sky, great warm colors
bona (11957) 2014-01-17 8:27
nice capture of the fishermen against the sunset. There people that get irritated with so little things. Glad you could take this lovely photo.

Hi Craig, excellent photography of this beautiful and interesting backlight fishermen, with the city skyline in the background, very well captured in this beautiful and interesting picture, with good sharpness, nice color and light. Excellent and interesting job well done, congratulations my friend. Thanks for sharing this beautiful work.
Good afternoon and happy weekend.
Warm greetings from southern Spain.

Although you faced some problems to take this picture, it was totally worthwhile, because it turned out to be such a wonderful image!
TFS - congrats,
jcpix (9324) 2014-01-17 18:18
Whoa, as much as I liked the singular fisherman silhouette you posted, this one takes the cake! :)
What a freakin' awesome photo, and a story to go along with it that only makes it even more fascinating for the abuse you had to endure to achieve this result. lol
For a still shot, this is action in motion...all of the fisherman at a different point in their casting/reeling. I'll take a silhouette any day, and you've managed a superb collection here, it almost appears like a cut-out, hand-placed for just the right photo op.
And to top it off, you have a smooth buttery sky as a backdrop and a horizon of the distant cityscape to add some depth. One helluva' shot, daily life at some of its finest. Enjoy the rest of your evening.
kwekwekan (946) 2014-01-17 18:25
A great atmospheric shot of Havana's famous sea-wall. The fisherman's silhouettes, each with a unique position, are beautifully set in front of the city's skyline. You have also timed the photo very well and I really like the strong triangular lines created by the two upright fishing rods.
Have a great weekend,
RhodieIke (11046) 2014-01-17 22:21
Love this, fantastic light and colours, made me chuckle reading your note about the irate fisherman.
Super Pov, and as usual, excellently managed and presented. Tfs, and the bonus smile.
abmdsudi (36344) 2014-01-18 8:32
This fits the ocassion well, the gorgeous warm tone from the afternoon light is a winner here and the effect is further enhanced by purity of the silhouetted figures in action. Bits of backdrop is lovely is addition that adds to the atmosphere. Sincerely imho, the drawback is the setting sun which is almost at the point of being burnt out and somehow distracts attention. Well done, Congrats
adramad (33590) 2014-01-18 10:50
A truly spectacular composition, fishermen in backlight with the skyline of the city as the background is wonderful, well the moment with the sun very low with this beautiful colorful sky is a fabulous complement.
Very good color on this lovely sunny day.
Perfect both brightness and sharpness of the image.
Enjoy the weekend.
emka (68666) 2014-01-18 20:52
Nice group of fishermen, i like their silhouettes in the beautiful light of sunset, nice view of the town on the other side of the bay.
You will see the fishermen in Emiononu in Istanbul, they are always there and not so nasty, you can make as many photos as you wish.
Excellent photo, I like it and the story.
Warm regards malgo
krzychu30 (14996) 2014-01-18 23:33
even if I never been to Cuba, this is exactly how I imagine Havana and Melacon.
You captured here perfectly the atmosphere I think not only of this place, but generally of Cuba.Relaxed and enjoying every single day.Even ubiquitous tourists taking pictures can not spoil this moment:)Right?:)
Have a good sunday
ikeharel (48368) 2014-01-19 2:18
After reading your note, that made me smile, Craig, I reckon not everyone is happy to be a protagonist in a scene taken by some passing tourist. Hope you got out of there safely.
Beautiful silhouettes of the anglers, well managed the sunset light and clarity.
Enjoy a nice sunday,
tatadalou (4621) 2014-01-19 11:46
Nice backlight shot. The 5 fishermen have the good idea to stand in various positions with their fishing line and that makes a real interestiing subject for a picture. You did well to continue taking pictures besides the recriminations of these fishermen.
worldcitizen (6135) 2014-01-19 13:02
I liked your photo with one fisherman's silhouette, so I certainly like this one with several fisherman. :-) I like the action of the man on the left casting his line, but I guess he was the one who wasn't too friendly! Beautiful golden color, too.
Periko (1895) 2014-01-19 15:37
This is a beautiful shot of a scene which can be seen every evening in the malecon.
Gigidusud (12193) 2014-01-20 4:47
This is a beautiful part of fishing at Sunset with nice silhouette. A great capture a bit dangerous anyway ;)
Kamilutka (6719) 2014-01-20 5:26
I guess anyone could get irritated by to many photographers trying to get a snap of you, but I am happy you managed. It is lovely picture with amazing colors of the sky and sunset making perfect background for the group of fishermen. Their dark silhouettes are very well outlined and one can see how different they all are. The cityscape on the horizon finish off the whole composition.
Well done and all the best!
Cricri (97031) 2014-01-20 8:22
chawax (17600) 2014-01-21 13:55
Great shot ! You used very well the contre-jour to have the shapes of the fishermen with sunset colours in background. Very well done !
carlo62 (23738) 2014-01-22 15:58
bellissimo scatto, me ne sono accorto solo ora, ma ne sono rimasto affascinato.
Fotografie con i tramonti ce ne sono veramente molte, ma questa è originale e bella.
delpeoples (50695) 2014-01-23 4:50
What a meany that guy was. I mean it's not as if you were taking a close up of him and indeed, he's turned away and in silhouette. Ah well, it would have been nice if he'd been friendly, but at least you got a beautiful photo out of it, one that I bet Tosca would especially appreciate. The row of fishermen make a fine graphism and I love that golden light in the left foreground. A top shot and something quite different from you too, once again.
PS: I met up with Kari on the weekend. Lovely bloke and I think he got some good photos to take home - in amongst our many varied beer stops ;)
SWEETFREEDOM (20804) 2014-01-25 0:06
i like the dark silhouettes of these fishermen and the sunset sky behind.
brianmcc (5917) 2014-01-28 10:49
this is a great picture, especially with the row of fishermen all standing with different poses. the colours in the sky are stunning and a great contrast to the dark silhouetted figures.
ruisc_pt (10255) 2014-01-30 12:39
I've traveled here and I can say ... you got it.. the moody ambiance,
Very well catched..
adores (32708) 2014-02-08 15:32
I like this, the five silhouettes of the men fishing and the city skyline in background. Very nice light also.
That's a reaction we find sometimes, it's always better to be prepared, but it's also part of the trip:)! You got a good shot anyway:)!
