This is exactly why i loved Havana so much and why we spent 4 full days in the city. Alot of tourists will stay at a resort, and travel by taxi to Havana for 1 day, we didnt want that. I truly wanted to get a more cultural experience, so we stayed with a cuban family in their Casa downtown.
And as much as i enjoy new modern futuristic architecture, i enjoy this style as well - the crusty peeling walls, the dirt and grime....it all appeals to me.
I was wanting to choose a photo that displays that, and here it is, it should give you a true sense of the conditions of Havana's Infrastructure.
The peach and blue colors really attracted me to this paticular corner intersection. Hope you enjoy it too.

You sure managed to capture the essence of that place. Simple and very picturesque...at least for us :)
I like your pov with the contrast between the sunny street and the one with shadows.

Havannas charm is indisputable according to the pictures I´ve seen. The old genuin environment seems not to be ruined by fancy restaurants and tourist shops yet? Nice shot by the way, with a good perspective and a excellent light. But possibly the whole upper corner of the building should have been within the frame? An interesting shot with attractive colors, tfs!
Have a nice day/

it must have been a great experience to live with real people in place like this. I admire your approach, I guess I became to lazy and sometimes I prefer to stay at home than accept more difficult conditions.
I have answered your question about the safety in Montevideo under my photo.
Very attractive composition. I like the geometry which created with the wide angle here. The architecture seems quite simple but the perspective created plenty of strong lines. The damage to the building makes it very photogenic with all the scratches and discoloring.

Hello Craig ,
I was sure that this was a picture from you ! I enjoy this kind of subject , too , And this old house is extremely attractive for me , more attractive than if it was renovated , and even a loof more iif it was replaced by modern buildings . Nevertheless , I'm not sure that the locals thinh the same ...
The angle of view , the lighting and the colors are splendid . May be it would have been better with the top of the house , but I suppose that it was not possible to frame it entirely .

Great to hear you stayed in the heart of the real city, its a nice way to see the real place. I have to admit, on the occasion I stayed in Captetown, I did stay in a resort and did some day trips to the city, but like you note, you dont get the real feeling of the people that way. One of the things that really strikes me about the shots you have posted from Havana is the incredible sense of depth that you've been capturing in the streets. I dont know if just the specific angles you have been choosing, but something looks amazingly 3D in these posts, and its brilliant.
And I too like the textures of the buildings very much, but when I look at this first, I studied it because to me it looked like the peeling paint and crusty finish was a mural that somebody had painted onto a perfectly finished building. It looks that nice, I thought it was a painting!
Nice one again, cheers

Your photos of Havana have opened my eyes to this city in a way other pictures haven't done. I realize I would love to roam the same streets and try to take similar photos - with less sharpness and less use of wide angles ;-). I find crumbling houses sad but fascinating. I love the triangle you created from the block to the left and the depth provided by the people in the street.

your Cuba theme is becoming one of my favorite now and the way you make ugly buildings looks attractive is quite astonishing. Superb POV for this one with the corner of the street being central part of the composition. Great light and colors.
All the best and thanks for sharing

Une très belle utilisation de cette belle lentille. On voit très bien le coin de rue ainsi que les deux rues transversales.J'aime beaucoup la texture des murs qui ont du être rose à une autre époque. A Cuba, la vie se passe dans les rues.

thanks for the note, Craig, but this is not the "best" side of Tel-Aviv...
Fine view on a typical corner in havana, there is an attractive edifice on far side of the street to right.
Plaster is decayed, but gave a special texture to the building, also light superbly managed.
Cheers, and stay in the warm side...

Just from seeing your pictures I get the very same, and vivid idea of your attraction to Havana...just for this kind of stuff right here, this is great! Amazing beauty in these old walls, the decaying exterior presents an enormous well of texture, color and charm. It's like a giant abstract canvas, the city has basically painted itself. :)
And what more do you really need to photograph other than something as simple as this to convey that sentiment? Sweet! I really like this layout, catching the juxtaposing streets with a little daily life in between. Smart choice of shooting direction too, the heavy shade on the left has helped hide the dumpsters and keep focus on the colorful wall. Tough call on width and crop, I think you did wise not to over distort and try to squeeze everything into the frame.
That rich blue sky is a terrific compliment to the range of rustic colors. Beauty!
Enjoy the rest of your evening. Cheers from PHX. (That's "Phoenix" haha ;))

You're capturing well this place by a good angle and excellent tone/clarity, so it's interesting and impressive to see tasteful buildings seen from the intersection. It's eye-catching for the outer wall with the peach and blue colors, and blue lattice window. And, it harmonizes well with blue sky.

Tes remarquables photos constituent un excellent reportage sur la vie dans cette grande ville cubaine. Tu es vraiment allé près des habitants pour en ramener des images "vraies".

A moment of the real life in the Cuba island, sweet colors and a good POV to see the 2 perpendicular streets. our view is directed to the pedestrians who don't care the photographer.
Good, good, good!

A nice view of the narrow lanes of Havana. These buildings are really a photo enthusiast's delight. Good angle, POV and lens chosen to show us both facades of this interesting building. From the shut doors and windows it looks like it is abandoned, it better be looks like it will collapse any time now. Great shot I like it. Thanks for sharing.
abmdsudi (55658) 2014-01-10 10:13
Love the totally candid nature of the people in this shot - it makes me feel like I've had a chance to look at real life there. Superb, stunning...all the adjectives are out for this one. again the magic of ultra wide lens is exploited to max impact. Great work, tfs

Ciao e buon fine settimana

really doing in these places someone must explore not behind a taxi's glass the town or the place, but strolling in the streets like you the beauties of it. I like the creative perspective of the construction with the humidity to covered almost all over of the building. The light and the colour management make the image even more efective but i wonder how the people stay there under this conditions.
