Photographer’s Note

(NB : I decided to post this photo despite the noise on the man's face ; if you have a solution (in PP), I'd be happy because apart from this, I like it a lot for its feeling and atmosphere - his face was too close to mine (about 60cm), I could not see it clearly in the dark, could not lean my camera on anything either !)

The streets were wet but lots of persons were out, till it started to rain more seriously. I had no umbrella and it was rather cold, so I took shelter in the nearest entrance of another old appartment building where this man was standing : he seemed happy with my company and accepted to pose for me, first serious and then more relaxed.

... And he did not forget me : coming back to Havana before my departure, he spotted me some weeks later - I would not have recognized him, were it not for this special smile.

Such an encounter with a stranger in the dark may seem a bit intimidating but if one chats in a positive manner and with a smile, in general there is always something interesting that will come out. He also wanted me to come inside his flat and meet his family upstairs but it was late and I had had already my fair share of encounters that day, so I refused but I'm sure that it would have lead to another fascinating visit.

J'admire toujours autant votre recherche de l'autre à travers la photographie. Voyager, découvrir, comprendre.
Vos photos sont vraies et loin du tourisme conventionnel (ce qui n'a rien de péjoratif), vous avez une approche différente c'est tout !

C'est un peu trop flou a mon gout mais il y a tout une ambiance dans cette image, dans les yeux du gars on dirait que le vaudou pourrait bien se reveiller, meme si c'est pas Haiti ici...

tu te fais trop rare, et je crains que beaucoup fasse pareil avec ce nouveau site!!!
moi j aime bien, il ressort une atmosphère, je ne le vois pas flou du tout, JY doit avoir des pbr de vue, le flou est bien placé ,à l'arrière

bonjour Catherine,
une belle photo urbaine et nocturne, j'aime bien l'ambiance. Le noir et blanc est très approprié pour retransmettre l'atmosphère de cette scène de rue.
Ta note est intéressant, sur ton approche des gens que tu rencontres et comment ces rencontres, ces sourires débouchent sur ces photos.

Superbe expression de cet homme, en moitie ombre moitie lumiere. J'aime beaucoup le jeu entre cet homme qui te regarde, a peu pres en intimite, et ton regard a travers ton appareil photo qui prend aussi la rue en profondeur avec le personage en "rickshaw".

a dark but also a nice candid shot seems to have taken from a movie scene. as you've pointed out Cathrine, the atmosphere prevails technical issues and makes the shot somehow mysterious. good capture. cheers,

The noise is no issue here.
You asked how to improve this.
You could use de-noising. It can be done in Gimp so I try to do it.
