Photos

I was looking for a street to photograph American car using panning technique. I did find a suitable place but the sun was very strong. I used the smallest aperture and lowest ISO setting but needed most of the time even more: However my density filter was at the casa particular so this was the best I could create! Slow shutterspeed creates blurred background in the picture the car is a bit unsharp further strenghtening the movement in the picture.

I spent about three hours at this place with very rundown buildings (exactly what I needed). After some time I recognized a sign on the other side of the street "Hay Pan" which means "have bread". There was a bakery in the building, a man stepped out on the street and was about to take the sign indoors. He left the sign outside the bakery! I thought I should have a photo of the sign before he take it indoors, took some quick steps out on the street and made a photo. I checked the histogram and took a second photo. Suddenly a man popped up!

He said, why did you take that picture? I question such pictures! I was surprised and didn't know what to say. The man talked to me in the best English a Cuban had spoken to me in three weeks and he was angry! I needed some time to figure out an answer so I said of coarse you should have an answer, you do absolutely right to ask questions! You are showing the ugliness of Cuba don't you, said the man? No absolutely not, it’s not my intension, this photo are showing that Cuba have a problem. A problem, said the man? Yes, there is a sign in the street “Hay Pan” This means that the bakery doesn’t have bread every day! We are not a developing country! Know the man was sad! I said, Cuba is on place number 58 in the ranking of richest country so there are about 200 poorer countries! Actually I was photographing American cars and needed this kind of background but the viewer will not see the state of the buildings! I showed the man some pictures. He was satisfied and disappeared as fast as he popped up! I realized that I had been kept under observation for a long time!
