Photographer’s Note
Morón is the oldest of ten municipalities in province Ciego de Ávila in central Cuba. It is the closest city to the tourist resorts on Cayo Coco and Cayo Guillermo. Many of the hotel workers live in Morón and commute to work in specially provided buses. Until the development of Cayo Coco and Cayo Gillermo, transportation to and from Moron was difficult, consisting of a small sail boat that traveled back and forth from the mainland and could take up to 10 hours. In the 1960s a road was built through the marshland to the coast, and in the 1990s this was extended on a man-made causeway to Cayo Coco and Cayo Guillermo. ( Wikipedia)
When we stayed at Cayo Coco we rented a scooter and traveled down to Moron, it took us about 1 ½ half. The train station was an easy landmark to remember and we were able to park our scooter nearby. The people were friendly and a little curious about us, apparently not many tourists come through.
