Photographer’s Note
Here is Arenal in all its splendour. Top of 1650 m, it is active since 1968 and he continues growing. The photograph which is taken from the west, does not allow to see the ancient cone. There is no report of eruption known before 1968 and the mountain was called the peak Arenal. The previous eruptions ended before 15th century. On July 29th, 1968, a mouth opened in feet of the ancient cone, and the cast subjects and gases caused the complete loss of the village Pueblo Nuovo. Human losses came to 80 persons. Evidence gathered following this beginning of eruption, and shown in the small museum of Observatory Lodge mentions big explosions, volcanic bombs having been ejected about 5 km and about burning clouds.

Salut Jacques,

What a great place from a great poin of view. The mount looks majestic, and surely is. The grey of the rocks mixes with the clouds in perfect harmony. Wonderful.

Hi, Jacques,
I like your explanation of the history of the volcano; this helps the viewer to understand the local significance. In this picture, I like the choice to show so much of the ground around the volcano; the line is especially graceful in the transition from peak to plane.
Compared with my visit a few weeks earlier, the sky is not so dramatic because of the large amount of diffuse cloud cover. Still, it is excellent to see the mountain all the way to its peak!
I wonder about your choice to include the shaded areas in the foreground. Probably, I would have chosen to crop those out of the frame.
Still, its a beautiful shot!
