Photographer’s Note
The bird-of-paradise flower is a native of South Africa and is closely related to the banana. It does best in warmer climates. I've seen it growing in Hawaii, and found this one in Costa Rica. The flower gets it name because it resembles a bird in flight.

Hi Claudia
There is a slight over exposure here (about 1/2 to a full stop) and the BG competes with the subject. This is a case where a better lens would allow some creative control so that you could shoot at F4 or F2.8 to keep the flower in focus and have the BG go nice and soft.
