Photographer’s Note
This is the church in Fortuna, Costa Rica, with Volcan Arenal behind. We had waited for 2 days walking in the foot hills in low cloud without a view. On the third day we woke up to this clear view but had booked to go rafting that day - doh!
We never did get any clear views at night when you can see the lava flows - very pleased to have got the views we did though.
Just downloaded NeatImage this morning as suggested by people here and tried it on some poor scans of slides taken earlier this year with the result seen. This is a vast improvement on the original grainy scan. If I over did things I found I lost detail on the volcano. I guess I need some practice. I have cropped a little and adjusted the saturation.

I like the way the roof of the church repeats the line of the volcano. The clouds at the top of the volcano are amazing.
The greens do look a little over saturated to me and I think I would also have cropped from the left to remove the car and street light. Those are minor criticisms of a really nice picture.

The cone of cloud in the top is wondeful and you framed the whole volcano, very well. Very nice picture!

Excellent framing of the mountain with the church, and the clouds hooding the peak are very distinctive, I like them :). It sounds like you didn't have very good material to work with for your scan, but the result is certaintly eyecatching.

The colors are magnificent. There is a wonderful sense of motion created by the interruption of the clouds as the blow past the volcano. Great composition. Well done.

I like the chuch and the mountain, beautiful, but I do agree with Keith by cropping the left side.

Superb composition, a very interesting photograph with this church well on and this incredible cloud on the volcano, well considering.

J'aime bien cette image car elle offre une jolie palette de couleur et surtout un sujet trés bien presenté avec cette petite contre plongée.
Je regrette un peut les cables electrique mais cela fait partis du decors.
Bravo une prise interessante Graham

Beautiful view of the volcano, very nicely framed from La Fortuna. The conversion to digital is quite good, too. Lucky you, we returned there hoping to see the volcano, after a first day of torrential rain, spent a couple of days and could barely guess the cone... I think the correct spelling is Arenal.

Très belle photo de l'Arenal, je n'ai pas eu cette chance quand j'y étais ! Les nuages au sommet du volcan sont du plus belle effet !

I've been in Alajuela and what I like here is how you capture so much of the essence of the place, the volcano with its peculiar double cloud form, the obligatory small town yet prominent church, and the lush foliage. There are some issues around colour cast and compression but I'm sure it makes a lovely transparency.
