Boy spying on the street
Hopkins is a small coastal Garífuna village in Stann Creek District in southern Belize. It is a fishing village with tourism likely as important as fishery. Walking on the main street, I spotted this little spy at a window, apparently interested in street life and passersby.
The Garífuna are descendants of West African, Carib and Arawak people. The story begins when a group of West African Garífuna forebears herded aboard slave ships and likely destined for New World mines and plantations wrecked off St. Vincent in 1635. They found refuge with the island's Carib Indians, immigrants from South America. The two peoples blended through marriage, creating the Garífuna culture - Caribbean fishing and farming traditions with a mixture of South American and African music, dance, and spirituality. Later, end of 1700s, they were ousted by British troops for the benefit of English colonists and shipped to the island of Baliceaux where, imprisoned in appalling conditions, more than half died. The surviving Garífuna were eventually shipped to the island of Roatán (Honduras) from where they soon began to spread to neighbouring coastal regions. Their arrival in Belize would be around 1802. The Garífuna people (total population of about 600k) now live primarily in Central America, along the Caribbean coast in Belize, Guatemala, Nicaragua, and Honduras, including the island of Roatán. What an engaging and warm photo with the child peering over the window. The astonishing sharpness reveals both the details of his face and hands and event the scratches on the window sill.
Many years ago I was giving lectures on a cruise ship, and our ship (the Royal Viking Sea) rescued passengers of the French Paquet Line Ship "Mermoz." We took 700 passengers plus several hundred members of the crew and left them in Belize.

Wow! What a stunning capture taken with a perfect sense of the moment! The scene looks so eye catching due to the main focus taken on the kid's eyes which created a fantastic visual effect of the presentation. Very well done. Like it a lot!

Almost not to believe that you took these two eyes exactly above these wooden beam .
You chose a very well angle this cares for depth and perspective.
A nice composition, good presentation.
Very well done, TFS.
Have a nice day,

An absolute cracker, a perfect timing shot to get the bits of penetrating glancing eyes into your soul. He is doubtless every bit as cute, the tight crop and angle off center at the third allow the viewer to fully focus on vital element. This is superb, clarity and detail is second to none, a real eye-catcher and a great shot. Congrats

una foto molto intensa e ricca di significati e nello stesso tempo molto ben costruita.
Una cattura eccellente nella quale tecnica, composizione e colore si fondono in maniera molto intelligente.
Ciao e buona serata

A lovely photo to go along with a good note. I like the framing of this boy, and how most of the photo contains the empty space of the open window. It's cute to see only his eyes and the tips of his fingers.

Very cute shot indeed. I like it. It is in our nature to be curious and as a child, we are careful and not yet brave enough to step outside and experience it. So the protective shelter, the child look out into the big wide world, and one day, he is ready to go out and take it all in.
Very nice moment captured with lots of innocent charm.

Hello Claude - What a heartwarming image. The small child shows the natural inquisitiveness of children so beautifully. I'm sure if you had approached his spying place, he would have disappeared and hid behind his mother's skirts! An exceptionally captured and well timed photograph with huge appeal. Warm regards Rosemary

So cute! He is too small to have his face above the window bottom, but it is also a good way to be hidden and spying the outside.

Une bonne image de vie quotidienne comme je les aime
une excellente idée de cadrage avec ses 2 mains agrippées au rebord de fenêtre
Juste dommage qu'on ne voit un poil de plus de son visage
bonne journée, bien amicalement

Very good shot, with a good composition and focus. I really like the way he puts his little fingers and also his curious eyes, trying to see what's going on outside. Good potrait!

This is delightful and nice to see such an unusual 'portrait'. The young boy is clearly inquisitive and he is very well framed by the window.
Very well done.
Kind Regards, Ann

I like this picture very much, the composition is well considered and the scene included looks candid. The bold lines and well balanced geometry, the natural textures, soft, warm colours and deep background, make a superb context that sets off those curious eyes. It's great how the little boy's eloquent half face is symmetrically framed by his hands too. A very lovely picture, congratulations and thank you! I also appreciate the information provided by your note, it was all new to me.
All the best, have a great day,

wonderful picture here, capturing the essence of childhood. Perfect low depth of the fields helps the picture to stand out.
