Photographer’s Note

Day one on a 10 day short mission trip to Gales Point, Belize. Shortly after this image was taken, we went on a small (12-15 passenger) boat ride to our "base" at Turtle Shore. Wind was up making the water choppy, but nothing drastic. As we approached the beach, the boat was turning around to back in to the ramp (no dock). When the boat was parallel with the beach, the boat swayed with the waves. At one point, a wave overtook the boat and I was the only one to get SOAKED from head to toe- literally. My hat, jacket (the only one I brought), pants, socks & shoes were drenched! Then I realized that my camera bag was not water resistant...CRAP!!! All my camera gear was doused. The only that survived was my 380ex flash & iPod (thankfully). This is one of the few images that survived.

Not sure how many of you are religious, but God was obviously teaching me a lesson- sometimes one needs to experience culture not from behind a camera, but face to face with the people. A valuable lesson, if not expensive one.
