Photographer's Note

St Nicholas Abbey is an old sugar plantation house located in the parish of Saint Peter on the Caribbean island of Barbados that dates from the mid seventeenth century.

Since my picture was taken nearly thirty years ago, the property has been acquired by new owners, who have carried out extensive renovations. It is also possible to visit a rum distillery on the property, which I don't think was the case at the time of my visit.

For a view of the house as it now appears and an idea of its history, please click here. You will be taken to the Abbey's web site.

The original picture was taken on slide film. It has been digitised and cleaned up as far as possible using Photoshop. Apologies for any remaining imperfections.
