These smiles are brought to you from the centre of the world, or at least within 100 meters from the Equator. This is from the northern outskirts of Pontianak city on western Borneo.
In a workshop you can see the Equator monument dating back to colonial days, judging from the Dutch word Evenaar.
Both pictures, from 1976, were scanned from Kodachrome slides.
PS I have seen now on Google Earth that the monument has been modernized since 1976.

Hi Gert.
Lovely shot from 'long ago'. Good photo to start with, and nice scanning job, for sure. Well balanced composition of these smiling people. The children might all be in their 30s and 40s now, and the lady a grandma. Delightful shot with lovely lighting and rich colour.
Regards,
Andrew

Great smiles and friendly photo from a fascinating and little visited place !
A little bit in a hurry right now, but enjoying to see this one,
Best regards,
Cath.
(PS : thank you for your recommendations, I'll be careful in east Turkey !)

Hi Gert,
Great caught of those innocent kids in a perfect natural "frame",couldn´t be better.Very emotional picture, gives you kind of warm feeling but sadness at the same time as well ´cause still today ,to work for the living is pretty hard in this country.

Hi Gert, It seems they live in such poor conditions but they are smiling and happy. Wonderful photo ot the mother with kids. It is a lovely picture.
I saw an Equator monument in Ecaudor. It more impressive than this one, with the city (for tourists) around. A line is marking Equator, so you can jump from notrhern hemisphere to the southern and back. I did not know thereis another one.

Hej Gert,
I missed this wonderful photo just because I was away:)
I really enjoy the portraits taken by you.
Another photo conveying an elevated mood and joy thanks to the children's smiles.. which makes me smile, too!
The kids seem to be very happy to be photographed:)
The composition is good, too, - with the taller girl standing in the middle. The contrast and colours are also quite balanced.
Quality-wise, in the era of digital photogrphy I still do like photos scanned from films.. in my opinion, they look more true to life than digital ones, especially when it comes to portrait photos.
best regards,
Elena

Hej Gert,
Excellent sharpness and colours, obviously a very good slide. As you say that you have Google Earth, I would certainly appreciate to see the coordinates as well!
