Photographer’s Note
This is my last photo for 9 days because I am going to Vietnam as of tomorrow and then Bali for 6 days.
I took this picture in Nagoya city, near Sakae, this high way above, shelters these homeless people. The cardboard boxes seem to go on forever.
But recently I went back and where you see the bicylce, you cant anymore because this section and the one opposite have been barricaded.
In Japan, the homeless people prefer to live under the high ways or in parks, under the blue water proof sheets, this way they can collect lots of cans and put them in a giant plastic bag, having said lots of cans, I mean over 2 to 300 cans per bag. The government have made shelters for these homeless people, but they refuse to move there because if they did, they wouldnt be able to bring the cans in to the premises.
If I take a good picture of a homeless person riding his bike with three giant bags of cans, I will show you. I have also found out that each bag they sell to recycle, they get 1000 yen for it, which is around 7.50 U.S dollars or 5 U.K
Pound.
I hope you like the pic
I have just darkened some areas and adjusted the Hue.

Misery is the same all over the world. The low crop is well chosen here.

A good documentary shot, Dan, with a side often hidden in Western societies even though it exists in all of them. The photo has a good depth, and your "panoramic" cropping enhances the message conveyed by your title and note.
Have a good and safe trip!

It looks familiar. Sights like this under overpasses are common here, also. The makeshift shelters and scraping by on meagre means. It's a sad sight. YOu did a good job capturing it here. Keeping it anonymous but really getting the point across. The bridge supports extending as far as can be seen seem to indicate this scene exists under everyone. So many times over and over. That's how big a problem it is. It's like a community onto itself here. Nicely done and nice reminder of the other side.

Very interesting note because the image transmited by Japan is of total organization...
But still the homeless people there are more "organized" than here. I guess I never saw a homeless with a bicicle.
Good panoramic format with a nice POV.

One does not imagine too that in Japan (I did not include/understand this history of can too much, problem of translation) this picture even speaks about it, a good photograph report despite everything, well considering.

In Italy a lot of people is in the same sad condition. It is an hard life: often we close both eyes but they exist really. This photo gives honour to all poor people. Thank's for sharing, Daniel.
