Photographer’s Note

Another view taken through the window of an aircraft flying over Eastern Tibet. See previous image for more information. I particularly liked the fluffy cloud surrounding some of the peaks in the bottom of the image. Hard to imagine a road going through these mountains. Part of the new proposed rail-road between Golmud and Lhasa will be built through such a landscape. When the rail-road will be finished, it will be the world's highest altitude railroad, reaching heights of 5,000 metres in some places and with some sections built over permafrost. Some say that the Chinese railroad will be the final nail in the coffin for Tibetan culture. Regardless of its outcome, Chinese occupation of Tibet continues. And yes, there are Chinese nuclear-waste dumps in Tibet, one is near a lake, consequently those areas are out of bounds to tourists.

The image was scanned and the colour was slightly adjusted to reduce the blue. Levels were used to even out the tones and the image was slightly sharpened.
