Boy, with a beach like that and weather like that I'd expect a ton of people on the beach. You and those dogs were only ones who got to enjoy it...and now we do too. A perfect postcard shot, but the with the dogs it has personality.

That is a beautiful beach scene, I reckon that dog is happy to be in the shade. The colours should be what we see on the beach, blue skies, golden yellow sand and clear water. The green from the tree gives it much more variety.

Hi Henk,
Finally a bit of sunshine and blue sky, even with nice clouds to populate your sky which is even better. We can't see well the light effect on water but on the sand the warming rocks and strengthens the contrast against the blue sky. Having the place just for you is added value, provided of course you don't mind the dogs ! Clever dogs they have, sheltered under the tree shade...

At least the dogs will leave the beach as they found it, something that most of people will not do.

And did you dip your toes into the South China Sea? This is an idyllic scene and looks like the perfect place to stroll along the water's edge in bare feet. Perfectly framed with the tree on the left, that actually seems to be echoing the cloud on the right. Those dogs know the best place is in the shade, and make a charming addition to the scene. So it wasn't all grey skies in Vietnam! well done

Beautiful shot Henk, not a view that would naturally come to my mind since I was in the military from '67 to '71. This is a great shot for color and composition and details, then the clouds cooperated on top of the rest, superb shot, well seen.

I passed this beach by bus only and wanted to stop....
In the note of your first posted image from your recent travel you wrote about a lot of rain and grey sky,here you have been very lucky.Fantastic light and a good compositionwith the trees at one side and the mountans(island?)in the distance.The dogs of course are fine details.

A beach in Vietnam? :) You know me, show me the ocean and you got me surrendered. And when coupled with that amazing velvia blue sky... I am still waiting for the day when you're going to share all those tricks with me. Just don't tell me to buy a 1DsMkIII like André! :) I love your photo. It's simple, peaceful but very will composed. Love the tree coming from the lower left corner and the dog behind it. It's a small element but it gives a big breath of life into this one. The cloud game is also very nice. The way it envelopes the scene leaving just the perfect amount of blue to weight the scene. Perfect indeed.

well, I just saw your newest picture and even though it`s already late I just have to write you. This is a wonderful beach scene, the dogs sitting under this nice looking tree and the wonderful landscape. As always the quality of the picture is overwhelming (but what do you expect by a 1D Mark II, a great lense and a Raw shot). The mountains on the horizion look awesome and the light is just perfect. A peaceful atmosphere, wonderful! I have to add it to my favorites!

Salut Henk! I wish this was me sitting there under the tree, relaxing in the shade, listening to the waves and staring out to the sea with not much on my mind ... maybe the dogs would give me some space in the shade. What a dream beach ... aes Traeumli! Not many are left as empty as this one but you rather sit on each others towel and you can hardly see the water, unless you book waterfront. But to my surprise some like crowded beaches. My friends from Italy stream to the same beach with the rest of Europe each summer and I never found out why. I love your wide white frame. A gorgeous beach, looks more like a south Pacific island than Vietnam! The curves of the beach and the water are particularly well placed here, and you have a nice balance between the foreground tree and the background hills. Good capture!

You might be the only one who can post a dog and get away with it ;-) But then it's small.
I love beaches with rivers as it reminds me of where I used to go camping every summer holiday when I was young. I like that depth and how the blue sky seems to make a V in the clouds near the horizon. Thanks for the useful travel info.

I recall an earlier post of yours of a Cuban beach scene with a dog running in it. The dogs really do add some character to the beach scenes. Marvelous image with beautiful lighting and composition. It is hard to believe that this tranquil beach was a hotbed of bloodshed and conflict not too long ago. Hello Henk,

At first glance I would have never gotten the location of this photo correct. I would have picked fiji or someplace similar but never Vietnam.

As for the composition it is perfectly done. Nice dramatic sky but the way the tree slashes through the scene gives good separation between the foreground and background. The two dogs are nicely positioned as well, right where I'd be except maybe with a nice cold brew!

This is an amazing picture! I really like the colours here and I feel this is a very sharp picture. Also there is a great contrast between the deep blue of the sky and the brighter sand. Very good composition and nice note as well.

Dag, Henk. Heel verbazend dat er alleen maar honden zitten op zo'n strand! Het uitzicht is prima. Je hebt de contrasten zeer goed beheerd, vooral in de lucht waar de witte wolken perfect belicht zijn. Hetzelfde geldt voor het zand en het zeewater. De bomen hellen juist genoeg om de heuvels op de achtergrond in de kijker te zetten.

it is quite interesting to notice the TE members preference. Your previous post with the young monk posing for a portrait is a much better and more meaningful work than this here. Don't get me wrong! The present post is good (I know that you know that) and has the characteristic henkinian PP perfectness, but the portrait is still the better one even if it attracted less attention and less favorites. I'm sure that you will agree with my critique, right?

The colours are just fantastic. The blue of the sky almost seems to jump out. I really admire your exposure control, with the sand perfectly exposed. Love the layers of the hills in the BG as well. For me, whose landscape photography is far below average, I can only admire & hope to learn
