Photographer’s Note

Phat Diem cathedral in Ninh Binh was built between 1875 and 1899. It is also the centre of the Catholicism of the North. It uniqueness is that it contains so much of the ancient Vietnamese architectural elements which makes it look more like a Buddist pagoda instead of a church. This building is actually not the church but the church's bell tower. The little tomb in front hold the body of father Sau, the priest who rallied the population to built the church complex.

Interesting photo. I like that it is in B/W. Did you post process the background looking through the cathedral to make it look out of focus? It looks a little too blurred in comparison to the rest of the photo which is quite sharp.

Great picture. The framing is perfect. The B&W gives it a historical mood.
We went there on a Sunday afternoon, during the mass. There were so many people and the sky was cloudy, so I could not take any real good picture of the cathedral.
