Photographer’s Note
We visited a rubbish transfer site in HCMV, here both regular trucks and these strange informal vehicles come to empty out what they have collected. The rubbish is then transported to the rubbish site with larger vehicles.
The strange rubbish collection tricycle on the photograph goes around the poorer neighbourhoods, those that have narrower streets and are paid directly to take the rubbish away.
It was a strange sight to see these vehicles come into the transfer site teetering as they cut corners, a driver at the wheel and one or two aids perched atop the heap...
As they unloaded, a bulldozer was busy nearby filling the containers large trucks would take away. The scene gave an impression of danger as the heavy machine moved around the fragile tricycle...
