[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The lovers sit on a bench by Hoan Kiem lake in Hanoi.
His phone rings and he tries to stand up to answer - she tries to hang onto him, but he breaks away and walks to the lake to take the call, deep in conversation.
She waits, playing with her hair.

Just one moment, but many stories......

I'm kicking myself for not getting closer or focussing on the girl, and can't decide if it works better in B&W so have posted another version in the workshop.

I prefer the colour, but then that's no surprise to anyone who knows me. The muted tones work really well to convey some atmosphere to the scene. Without being able to see the phone we would think they had an argument. This composition is fine as it is because it tells a story, but a great alternative, in addition to this, would have been to fill the frame with the girl, which I think is what you are suggesting.

I think I prefer the B&W version, although I think you pushed the contrast a bit far - you've ended up losing detail in the dark bits of the image. Perhaps you could have increased contrast selectively, ie just applying it to the areas of the image that needed it.
It is a bit of a shame that you didn't focus on the woman, as she is really the key part of the image, but on the other hand the softness does fit well with the mood of the image. I like the poses that you captured here.
Interesting work Brian.

Cheers,
Ben
