[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The H'mong people origionally migrated from China in the 19th century, and are now one of the largest ethnic groups in Vietnam. They grow rice on the steep slopes and raise animals. This girl is from the black H'mong group. We went on several walks through the villages and they would accompany us the whole way. Most of our time in Sapa the landcsape was cloaked in extremely thick mist which would only lift for brief moments to reveal the beautiful landscape with rice terraces, mountains and villages.

Hi Wanda,

You’ve met H’mong people! I’ve read somewhere that they are the poorest tribe in south Asia, but probably like other asian tribes, they are the nicest people.

You were lucky enough to get this voluntary model and you did a good portrait of her. You probably were under a tent or tree branches, because the light from the background and the one on her face seems to vary a lot and you had to overexpose the vegetation in order to keep her facial details. There’s also a slight blue cast on her face, maybe the result of a reflection around her.

I like the fact that she looks natural and not necessarely posing, which makes variety in your portfolio, between candid and composed shots.

Have a nice day Wanda!

André

Hi Wanda,
very interesting portrait of H´mong Girl
Regards

Wanda I wish I had the chance to visit the places you do and see what you see. Unfortunately I can't, so for that reason I thank you because you show me the stuff I might never see...The gilr's natural expression is very good. She doesn't seem to be posing at all, but she seem immersed in thoughts. The blue cast doesn't really bother me but it does create a nice contrast with the overexposed areas on the corner. Thanks Wanda.

Hi Wanda,
I don't know what she is thinking of or looking to. But the way you captured that is nice. Clear and sharp portrait and blurred background to keep the focus on the face.

a touchy portrait... she looks sad in a way... simple yet so effective... congrats wanda...
