Photographer’s Note
Photo taken near Mui Ne Fishing Village.
Small round bamboo basket boats or that you can see on the foreground in this photo are very typical in Vietnam. As a boat these basket boats are truly a universal design. Variations appear in the Ku-dru of Tibet, the bamboo boat of Vietnam, the quffa and zaima of Iraq, the parisal of India and the bullboat of the Mandan Native American tribe. Similar boats, called coracles can also be spotted in the waterways of Wales in western England.
These boats are woven out of bamboo and then waterproofed with tar, they are very skillfully rowed using only one oar. I was truly amazed how fast the local fishermen moved around with these boats.
Postprocessing in PS: Adjustment to levels, increasing the brightness of shadow areas using shadow/highlight tool, rotate 0,1 degrees CW, clearing up minor water splash marks on lens using clone stamp tool, resize, minor unsharp mask, added frame.
