Boys will be boys, girls will be girls Photo

Photographer’s Note

A typical afternoon in Sapa, Vietnam. High in the mountains, the fog rolled in and was quite thick. I was attempting to take a picture of the girls on the right when the boys suddenly jumped out of the fog and I was able to catch them in mid flight.

Yep! I think in one single picture, you achieve to capture some differences between boys and girls! Not sure I'm too happy though of those differences. The girls seem to be heavy, boots on the ground, poles (?) on their shoulders, a worried look in their face and walking slowly. Guys seem to be just the opposite, very light, their feet not even touching the ground, nothing on their shoulders, smile in their face and running. Oh well... This picture, though it has some problems (the digital color noise), is really good. Great capture Alison.

wow, their faces really expresses the carelesnes of the girls towards the boys. pluss, the mist does give an "unpredictable sense" to your shot, i like it! really shows the gap between boys and girls here. although technically this is not a good shot,in whole, you manage convey the implicit of the picture, well done

Hi Alison. Mid flight is the opperative word. Nicely caught. I get the impression that the boys are off to school, while the girls are off to the fields. Hope I am wrong, but the boys seem to be running late and are keen to remedy the situation. Lovely mood to this slice of life. Well done. Regards. Klaudio.

in addition to the other comments, I'd add that the graininess adds a classic timeless feel especially suitable for the subject. Note there looks like a small perhaps dust blob right above the one girl's stick.

Even though the colors are darkish and a little muddied... I really like the "feel" of this shot, your composition and timing. This is indeed what Sapa looks like often and you've done an excellent job capturing that.

This beautiful photo is alike a classic painting. fog has helped to a fantasy atmosphere. boys create nice figures. their run is interesting, in reality it is a excellent capture in good moment.

Welcome to TE, Alison, thanks to the mist and colourtones this composition has a very atmospheric feel. The girls look as if they are slowly walking to their place of work in the fields, the boys are certainly in a hurry for something, i would not guess work:) Nice work on your part.

you are lucky to have your camera ready to capture this shot . The fog certainly adds to the mysterious background .
The noise is very noticeable but in my opinion adds to this photograph.
