A scene just outside Hanoi captured while doing the weekly Hanoi Hash (a drinking club with a running problem, setting out runs every weekend).
The runs are usually in rural Vietnam and they bring you to places you would not see otherwise.

Hi Pieter,
I like your picture however in my opinion there is too much empty space above this man and bicycles... anyway it's just a matter of composition

This is a very bold composition with the large area of empty space which takes up almost all the frame. It could so easily not have worked, but in this case its very succesful. I think its excellent. Its a very atmospheric image, helped by the misty conditions and use of black and white.
This is a classic.
Ben

Hi Pieter,

I really like the mood here, though I do wonder about the benefit of cropping the bike on the left out. You see, I gather you are tryng to portray solitute, and for me, the second bike suggests that somebody else is there (perhaps on a toilet break :))

Anyhow, I agree with Ben about the space above...

I love the huge sky ... shows how small we are, lost sometimes ... a little sad this all seems but there are not only happy moments in life I guess.

Well done, greetings from Switzerland

Barbara

How to get a good shot with a difficult light.
I love how you have managed this light and mist with good composition, great definition of levels and good BW conversion.
Thank you,
Stefano

IDEAL! I can't say more!

Outstanding, poetic shot, Pieter, meticulously composed. My only suggestion would be to make this more of a genuine rectangular (landscape) frame by simply cropping some of that sky, just an aesthetic preference but it's a beautiful capture.
Bravo!
Francis

Hello Pieter
EXQUISITE composition, tones... the foggy atmosphere in which the background delves is so beautiful and rich. The whole shot indeed is. Beautiful graphic feel and lyrical elegance!
Thanks!

Composition très dépouillée mais très expressive pour cette belle photo
Bravo, Pieter!

Its nice to see older members here. Its like a blast from the past. Why did you erase your shots though? If they were as good as this, then thats a big shame. Lovely use of extreme white space to create a great mood. The composition is well balanced both horizontally and vertically. What does it for me though is the faint view of the horizon, giving this shot a great feel of depth. Very nice work.

Excellente composition !
Qualité parfaite et choix du noir et blanc très judicieux...
J'aime bien ton cadrage avec 80% de ciel et 20 % de terre !!
Très réussi
Bravo

Hi Pieter,
Well done for this B&W shot : the great sky is a good idea.
2 bicycles for a man is... mysterious !
And the frame is very beautiful.
Regards.
Fred

A lot of space, that's nice done and the this time, clear "silhouettes" make a nice scene, nice seen !
