Photographer’s Note

Very soon after arriving in Vietnam, you'll see the first conical hat (nòn bài tho in vietnamese), and it is part of daily life until you leave the country. Conical hats can crown heads of cyclists, people working the ricefields, rowing a boat, selling fruit in the street, or with elegantly dressed business women. Under it, you can see a hardworking face, a sweet smile, a sweating vendor... Conical hats certainly add to the exotic picture of the country.

Hoi An ancient town is an exceptionally well-preserved example of a South-East Asian trading port dating from the 15th to the 19th century. Its buildings and its street plan reflect the influences, both indigenous and foreign, that have combined to produce this unique heritage site.

Great shot! I like this forest of hats. It's only when you observe more the picture that you are attracted by the eyes of the woman. I wonder what she is looking at...

It's simple but it is about enough to cause a heart-quake to those who wore this hat on their head for several decades, in sunny days or rainny seasons of the country, myself included.

La géométrie répétitive faite par les chapeaux est très graphique et le seul visage qui en ressort donne une note humaine au cliché. C'est vraiment bien fait !

Très graphique je trouve le mélanhge et les différentes inclinaisons de ces chapeaux.
Ce visage de face perdu là au milieu c'est géant.
J'aime assez le gros contraste avec cette forte lumière sur ces blancs et les reste passablement sombre...ca donne une ambiance intéressante.

Your compo is simply beautiful : the dof is great, the focus is good, and even if it was a little dark, you managed the light pretty well.

Luca, this is wonderful, I love the forest of hats, so aptly titled, and just the one face. It is so difficult to keep the hats from being overexposed and keepign enopugh light to see the details. I think you have it balanced well.

Fantastic image. Realy eye catching. I would be even better if the man's face in the middle was alittle bit more visible (lighter). But this is good, nevertheless!

I like this one very much. It is a very good composition, with the repetitive motive of conical hats. The face of the woman looking at the camera take the attention since the first moment. The picture has lost quality on the scanner, but is really nice. Congratulations.
