| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
While we were waiting for our boat to bring us back into Hoi An this old woman tried to sell us something cold to drink.
You can see her store in the background of the picture.
Did I buy anything from her?
Yes - a coke for me, and water for my girlfriend. |

very casual scene, harsh sunlight, but I just love those conical hats... There is a lack of composition I think - the left side is empty - I'd prefer to see her shop more on the right side, not obscured by the woman, but... I'd do the same - I'd just quickly shoot hoping I can get sth interesting... I am always glad to see casual, daily pictures.
I like this portrait and how the woman is positioned slightly off center. The midday lighting is a bit harsh. Her contrast looks pretty good but the sunlight in the background is pretty bright.
I tried something in black and white in a workshop for you. Hope you like it.

At the first look I said it could be a very good portrait, but the background... Then I read your note and change my opinion. It is a good one, with your note. Did you use flashlight for her face? According to the shadows was about midday, so her face had to be in shadow because of her hat. Not so good that you cut a bit her left side. Probably she was moving - or you were in a hury
