Hi,
I saw a group of kids along the road looking after their family cows. They were so happy and shouting: "hallo! hallo!.." so I had to stop and give them some candies. They were camera shy too at first but then they gave up after I insisted and bribed them with candies :)

One thing happened though that surprised me..
I had several packs of notebooks and pens that I had taken with me to donate to schools in Sa Pa or anywhere that there was a need. So I decided to hand each one a pen and a notebook. When I did that, they looked at me confused and they appeared not to know what to do with them. They actually refused to take them. One father was on the hill working on his land and he saw me handing them something but since he was far I don't thing he could see well what they were.. so he came down to get one!
I handed him a notebook and a pen but his face looked even more confused than the kids. I could almost hear him saying in his head:"what am I supposed to do with these?" as he breezed through the empty pages with his thumb and his blank eyes. finally after a minute or two, he reluctantly accepted them. I won't be surprised if he used the notebook in their fire that night for cooking..

Hope you like this..
Best Regards,
Skye

Bonsoir Skye,
Quels magnifiques sourires. Ces enfants seraient plus interessés par une photo que par un cahier.
Très jolie composition. J'aime beaucoup le grain soyeux de la peau, le flash a permis cette finesse. Bravo, très grand travail.
Amicalement
Martine

Great image. Very sharp, and you caught nice expressions. And your stories about the photos are very interesting. I wonder if they will ever use it for at least drawing pictures in.

A very, very nice photo of these two young girsl...really well done. I like your note, too...and it makes me think that the happiest kids sometimes are the ones with the least.

Hi Skye:
Most of Houston residents have been evacuated, before Hurricane Rita hits the city in the next hours.
We are living in Zone C, and authorities have declared "mandatory evacuation" on Zone A and B. Our zone will be next.
Our neighborhood is so quiet right now.
We have missed the chance and access to New Orleans 3 weeks ago, so Ngoc-Son and I decided to stay — unless they bring military in to force us out.
We expect to lose power in several days (we will be disappearing from TE until power being restored), and will need to wade in flood to collect pictures instead of driving...
Don't worry about us. Pray for the people who just abandoned their New Orleans weeks ago, and now have to be in another exodus...
God Bless!

Thanh

About the photo:
Good title, sharp image and an excellent capture of a special moment.

About the note:
It's very sad that they didn't know what to do with the notebooks. These people and the very different culture they live in obviously made a strong impression on you. The children, especially, seem to have gripped your heart forever.

Shelly.

Excellent shot of these two, their smiles are so engaging. Graet note as well. Well done. TFS.

Hi Skye,

Very impressive note And a very happy shot. I really can see all the happiness in their eyes. Life is more difficult for some of us. But I don't know if it's bad or good. Anyway live goes on oneway or another.

Very nice picture and a good note to complement it. Well composed shot, sharp and with proper exposure.

A beautiful portrait, Skye, and a very serious story behind ... there must have been a very good contact between these children and you, that's what one can tell from this picture ... a great shot!
Take care and have a nice day
Guntram

Hello, Skye!
It is really fantastic portrait of a couple of children looking very happy. It was a good idea to give them candies, it really helped to chill out a little, and they look very natural and congenial. Congratulations!
regards,
Greg

An excellent portrait shot, with two smilies and happy faces and great expression, very well captured,it's very lively and full of life and hope and childish world,
Excellent sharpness and quality and very well worked,Skye, nicely used of DOF and well composed, too,I enjoy it very much,
Best to You
M

They are so beautiful!!! You should have drawn on one notebook. Give them an idea!

A great double portrait, Skye. You have caught the light on their faces well to get good illumination. Good use of fill flash to moderate the otherwise strong shadows from the sunlight. Wonderful smiles, lovely skin tones and beautiful headscarfs.

Excellent notes very instructive. The picture also is very good, I like the colors the wonderfull expressions, the lighting is excellent, excellent capture. TFS
Luc
