We took a day trip from Hanoi to the Perfume Pagoda. After a 2 hour ride, we took a row boat (1.5 hours) to the start of a 1.5 hour hike up to the Perfume Pagoda. At the end of June, it was very uncomfortably hot, but there was no one else there. It was a spiritual experience - more so than I'd imagined, given all the photos with hundreds of people swarming the pagoda.
I took this shot on the way out of the pagoda. The pagoda is basically a cave at the top of the mountain, with steps leading down to it. The smoke is from all the burning incense.
I'm uploading a grayscale version, what do you prefer?
No PP done on this one. I almost always USM, but it didn't seem appropriate here.

I can imagine the atmosphere you had, even if it's strange to me to see it without people.
A good pov and ambiance, thanks to the smoke you captured well.
PS : you can see the place with people in my gallery

Really nice image Ian, almost spooky but very atmospheric. congrats for getting some people in the shot at a good distance (the stairway is the subject, but needs the scale provided by the people)
The shot is not sharp as you said (no usm), I'm assuming this was hand held. The focus is perhaps a little shallow (perhaps its the sharpening) - I cant help feeling I'd like to see this shot with a tripod at F8. metering and focusing in smoke is always very tricky.
