Simhapura (Tra Kieu)

Yesterday I posted my photo at the Buu Chau Mountain with the legendary story "The Lady of Trà Kiệu Church”. Today I would like to present the landscape of this region with the Tra Kieu Church (White Dome) and The Ancient Champa Capital which has been completely destroyed. In small bue roof in image the local gouverment have just rebuilt a New Cham Tower. I hope you will be interesting this famous history period of this heroic & historic destination.

Simhapura (Tra Kieu) — or the Lion Citadel, was the first capital city of Champa, serving in that capacity from the 4th to the 8th centuries. Sadly, this one-time capitol of the Cham Kingdom has been completely destroyed. Today, nothing remains of the city except the city's outline, visible from a nearby hill. A large number of artefacts, including some of the finest carvings in the Cham Museum, were found here. Visitors can get a good view of the city's outlines from the Mountain Church (Nhà Thờ Núi), which is on the top of Bữu Châu Hill in Tra Kieu. This modern open-architecture was built in 1970 to replace an earlier church destroyed by time and war. Actually, a Cham tower once stood on this spot. Simhapura is about 500 metres to the south and south-west of the hill top. The Mountain Church is 6.5 km from the Nam Phước Junction on National Highway l and 19.5 km from the beginning of the foot path to Mỹ Sơn. Within Trà Kiệu, it is 200 metres from the morning market (Chợ Trà Kiệu) and 550 metres from Trà Kiệu Church.
