Photographer’s Note
I took that image in the early morning, when the sunrise was at the beginnings and there was a strong humidity and a little bit of fog.
We were close to the Hoan Kiem Lake (The Lake of the Restored Sword), referring to a 15th-century legend in which the nobleman Le Loi, who fought for the Vietnamese against Ming China, received his sword from a magic turtle living in the lake. The nobleman defeated the Ming and returned home in victory. One day, the emperor was boating in the lake when the turtle surfaced demanding the sword's return. In memory of this event, the emperor built the Tortoise Tower on an island at the south end of the lake. Enormous turtles still live in the lake today. When they are spotted, it is supposed to herald the death of one of the country's leaders.
At early morning, everyday hundreds of Hanoi inhabitants come on the streets around that Lake to do Tai Chi; the firsts flower-sellers arrive from Hanoi suburbs for another long day of work on the street.

Hi Paolo,
composition is very good. I think you lost quality in the colors due to the scan, as the colors are not as vivid. Ofcourse, this could also be said to be another form of sepia, in which case it adds some nice age to the photograph.

Really quite lovely, Paolo. I know the lake well and Hanoi (two trips now). Not only have you captured that unique atmosphere so well but your color work here enhances the evocative quality - the scan + post-process looks almost hand tinted. result = timeless.
Grazie, Paolo! Ciao, Francis

This one has a strange but interesting mood. It reminds me of the hand colored photos of the beginning of the 20th century. Regarding the frame I also like it, although I feel it’s a bit tight. I would like to see a bit more from the bottom part and that the subject was placed more to the left part of the frame. The right empty space would be greater and it would create a feeling of space for him to advance.
