Photographer’s Note
While wandering the Saigon Markets I came across this amazing looking fruit/vegetable, but couldn't get anyone to tell me the name.
It is about 150mm / 6" across, and covered in spines.
Can anyone help me with a name and what it is used for, please?? There was only one stall with them, but they were not selling fast.
Thanks to anyone who can help.

Although I cna not assist with the type of frueit, I've seen similar fruit around here in the Asian food markets (which I prefer to shop much more than the local safeway).
Your photo is great eith very yummy colors and the textrure comes through well. The crop is good but I think you would ganin stenght in you composition if you cropped more on top and left side.

- Wonderful capture. You cannot go wrong with the current cropping, if you know the purpose of the fruit.
- Its name is TRÁI GẤC. Local residents use the cover to dye their sweet rice in order to have it more colorful and attractive.
- The term "GẤC" is also used as adjective. When a person has redness on face due to shyness, we Vietnamese refer to as "mặt đỏ như gấc" (with the face as red as gấc).
Hope the info helps.
Thanks for such abeautiful capture. No, TE should not remove this picture. It is NOT simply a fruit; it is a traditional culture.

Anybody knows if we can eat this?
Kevin, shame on you if this is not an eatable fruit. I wonder if we offer EVE an apple and this one, which one would she take?
Cheers!

Very colorful fruit Kevin, your framing makes it almost graphical, and thanks Thanh for the name, wouldn't know how you have to pronounce that ... do I see a fly there on top, so it must be eatable ?
