Watching people going by in the streets of Hoi An....

In Vietnam, the conical hat is called nón lá - leaf hat. It is a traditional symbol of Vietnamese people. Everyone can wear one, it’s a garment without age, sex or racial distinctions. The iconic conical hat has many uses : fan off the heat of summer, becomes a basket for carrying fruits or vegetables or a bowl to relieve the thirst when passing by a well.

There is also a romantic use: young couples can kiss behind nón là so that no-one can see them.
