Traditionally every member of the Black Hmong family, from tiny infants to the elderly, wear embroidered adornments and all of this is done by Hmong women, who also weave cloth on family looms. So it is required that girls are taught this basic skills of weaving and knitting from a very early tender age as well as to work in the fields. In their culture, acquiring those skills are more important than having good looks.
Making a beautiful outfit is especially important for the teenage girls, because it not only attracts attention with its beauty, it also shows that the girl is skillful in an area considered essential to married life. So, it is no surprise to see even while walking to the field or to the market the Black Hmong women twisting hemp thread, wearing loops of it around their necks. Whenever they are seated, whether in between chores or taking a break on a long walk, their hands are busy embroidering.
It is said that a needle, strands of brightly colored thread, a piece of cloth and the ingenious hands of a Black Hmong woman are all that is required for some of the finest needlework in the world to be produced.
This picture speaks itself...
and thanks for viewing.

Cute, miniature picture, upclose exploring/touching the textures both of the cloth and of her skin. Great title too! Yes, this communities are close-knit (and hope they manage to stay that way in this changing world.)
Thanks also for your personal reaction to my storytelling picture.

Hello Abmdsudi - This takes me back to my childhood when I had to learn embroidery (and had no patience for it!). This young girl is concentrating with all her might as she counts the threads for the fine work she is doing. A charming DL shot with an excellent close crop and very good detail. I love her dirty fingernails, they make the portrait even more endearing. Warm regards rosemary

I love the way you have composed this picture filling the frame with the girl's concentration and making us share it with her. She is obviously practising, maybe trying to prove her skill to someone. You have made great use of the light obtaining very clear textures and wonderful natural colours. I like very much the repetition of the colours and the inclusion of the embroidered pattern on her sleeve at the corner of the frame, where it is also connected to her posture and becomes very eye catching and illustrates your note most effectively. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great day,

beautiful close-up, your photo makes me think about what is more or less right, but I think maybe for days without coming to conclusions, of course I see the hands of a child so small already worn out from work puts a little sadness but also see a spoiled child that goes to school...soo...
anyway the photo is wonderful...so nice colors and sharp..a nice reportage about this etnic group...

Outstanding closeup shot, Abmdsudi. The clarity is incredible - you were able to even capture the grit under and around her fingernails here, as she works with such concentration. Your shallow DOF keeps the focus right where it should be - on her hand and the piece she's working on, and on her face, hunched close with concentration. Nicely done.

I like the close up detail of the knitting girl. Love her concentration as she is totally in her own world making the traditional craft. I can totally appreciate such hard work every line, every pattern come from precise hands. I tried doing one of these, I cann't do it to save my life.
Really good daily life shot with strong cultural espect.

You're capturing well this portrait by a good angle and excellent tone/clarity, so it's interesting and impressive to see the spectacle that this young girl is doing the needlework. It's impressive in the traditional coat based on blue with embroidery, too. It can see concentrating on weaving cloth in her expression. It is important for becoming independent that the woman gets a job to a hand also by the time of when, although needlework is one of the work peculiar to the woman.
