Day XX

I really enjoy the way Hinduism and Buddhism use the lights in their temples and pagodas. I usually find it really original, cheerful and sometimes fascinating !

This one, in Trai Mat's pagoda, belongs to the... "Fascinating category" !

The shot was quite hard to make because it was not allowed to shoot inside the the pagoda. The main gate was open and I shot it from the outside, with a zoom. It's a little dark and noisy, but I wanted to share this incredible Buddha...

C'est drôle de voir ces néons dans un temple aussi sacré pour être interdit de photo.
Bonne initiative et bon résultat au final.

Hi Stephan
Thanks for your wonderful presentation for the architecture and the spirit daily life in my country. Well done.

Bonjour Stephane,
Nice shot with great light and sharpness,
Especially I appreciate your work that, as you say, it was tough to make pictures inside,
Thanks for sharing,
Lukasz

Hi Stephane, I like the way these concentric circles of neaon gives and modern glam aspect to this temple. The contrast in styles is also facinating. Well seen & executed.
Regards from Rotterdam, Bert.

This is a nice picture of, what must be, a Mahayana temple. It has a stong Chinese influence as in this sect. The lights around the head of the Buddha image are facinating.

Salut Stéfane,
great mixture of kitsch and old religious tradition. I like the symmetry of your image. Great composition and POV.
best wishes,
Nino

Interesting place - I never saw a Buddha with neon light...
Thanks,
Magnus

An amazing temple for this Buddha. You did well to shoot it under difficult circumstances.
All this ornate over-the-top decoration reminds me of the Cao Dai Temples.

Hi Stephane,
Excellent picture in difficult circumstances. So many different light and still such a balanced shot. So technical great but of course also an interesting place.
Groet Rob

that a very interesting architec
looking at your pictures make me wonder how many places I missed out when I visit Dalat last year.

Hi Stéphane, This is the first time I see a modern art decorated to the Buddha temple. The neon lights made the traditional old fashion Buddha looked modern and strange. A well captured indoor picture under the complicated light condition. Nice and clear image. Well done.

Salut Stephane
La lumière est bien captée et le cadrage est très beau. C'est toujours étonnant de voir comment la modernité et le gadget se marrient avec la métaphysique.
Bien vu. Amicalement

Very nice. If you hadn't said it I would have thought you were inside photographing this. The exposure looks good. The darker look suits the lighting. It has a very theatrical feel to it. The sides even look like the box seats in an opera house. And the central perspective also adds to that theatrical feel by focusing on the Buddha. He is very impressive there and really stands out. The neon is a neat twist on this structure which appears from another century. It's an interesting meeting of two times. Very well done Stephane.

Hi Stephane,
Fascinating indeed! This is an unusual scene. I was not aware that Hindus and Buddhists used such modern "glitz" in their tamples. I know with Sikhism there is an ongoing dispute between liberals and conservatives on issues such as chairs versus no chairs in the temple. Is there a similar division in the above two religions, Stephane? In any event, you have well captured the temple interior, which is richly appointed with ornate artwork. Well framed and cropped for great effect. An important and impressive capture.

Stéphane, c'est une photo qui me plaît pour son air bon enfant evec ce bouddha et son environnement. Les conditions de prise de vue étaient difficiles mais tu t'en es très bien tité.
Bien vu !

Hi Stéphane,

This is truly a wonderful image of the Buddha. Totally leafy, green, vegetative -- and electric! I love the neon effect. It all reminds me of the name of an Indian restaurant called "The Electric Lotus."

What a wonderful trip you must have had! Thanks for sharing this and your travel notes!

Best regards,
José
