Something different today, not my style of photo. Late afternoon at Mui Ne, women are laying shrimp on the sun to dry (the pink "carpet" is shrimp). Mui Ne is a resort town known for its fish sauce and sand dunes. Personally I would rather eat the sand dunes, though the smell of fish sauce is just as memorable as the dunes.

One thing I really appreciate in your pics is the quality. The detail and sharpness here are done to perfection. The colours have vibrancy. Great curves of the coastline too. My compliments.

This is indeed something different, but something amazing. I love the scene of the women on the sand dunes leading us to the view down the beach and the water with all the little boats. The colours are so beautiful and vivid. I also like the detail in this photo. Beautiful composition with lots of great elements present!

Hi Tan, yes a slight depature from your landscpae shots, but still an engaging image. Good shot of the women at work & also their surroundings. The POV is excellent, leading to a great composition, with strong vivid colours. Your note is good too.
PJE (20758) 2006-06-16 19:51
Well Tan I think this is an excellent photo of yours. It tells the story of the catch from the boats along the shore to the drying process along this bank of stone facing the bright sun. A fine presentation Tan, thanks for sharing!

I didn't know that you came that close to the community and their daily activity! Thanks for seizure of such a cultural moment and notes.
Regarding our contacts, I received your "test mail" but when I responded to you at "sfdpw.org", my reply cannot be delivered. I hope the difficulty would end soon so you can give me instructions on "scanner".

Hi Tan, yes i can almost smell the fish here.. :) Good shot, but let me correct you - this is also your style - vivid colours, perfect viewpoint and breattaking quality - that is like your signature ;)

sleon (9402) 2006-06-17 15:53
Why is this not your style of photo? Not taken from high up enough above?? The framing is lovely - I like the diagonals in the lower half - and there is so much detail and activity to take in. As ever, the quality is good though it looks as though you oversaturated a bit.
HAve a nice WE, Susanna
gilou530 (34) 2006-06-17 17:04
un paysage incroyable avec tous ces bateaux alignés et les autres au second plan, belle PDC et couleurs saturées, bravo
Gerrit (44005) 2006-06-17 19:23
this is an unbelievable view, with all those boats and from everything so many objects. Great colours too.
Thansk and regards, Gerrit

Cést une image magnifique avec une concentration de bateaux exceptionnelle, une tres belle lumiere et cette petite touche d'humanite avec cette femme au travail.
tcht (7565) 2006-06-18 6:31
That's really beautiful. IT seems like a documentary 'painting' from the early 19th century - especially with those old fashioned boats and the way they work. The colours are good plus the depth is trully spectacular. Nice sense of scale with that little basket in left corner. TFS.
lukie (0) 2006-06-18 10:23
maybe not your kind of photos, but here you show us daily life in a good way.
jbweasle (9373) 2006-06-18 10:59
Hello Tan, you have exceptional colour and great detail in this shot. I love the way the shoreline curves around the image. The women in the foreground add life to the picture.
rhizomes (15343) 2006-06-18 12:00
I really like this picture ! Nice colors, great point of view and a good impression of daily like at this place !
john_c (24662) 2006-06-18 12:09
There is so much for the eye to absorb here, and I love the tones and textures of the foreground stonework. The perspective is exhilarating, with the eye taking in the sweeping view of the aligned boats and the shoreline beyond. The women are neatly placed in the scene. A pleasing and successful shot.
emjleclercq (15780) 2006-06-18 16:08
A nice picture, difficult to position geographically except for te conical hats. I like the half moon view of the bay, full of small fishing boats, and also the rowss of backets in the bottom right. Very good sharpeness.
All the best,
rbcy1974 (20758) 2006-06-18 18:24
YOu have a great eye for caputing landscapes, and the fact that you have included the lady here only enrichens the composition, excellent pov, great wealth of details.
vicki007 (109) 2006-06-18 20:25
Great photo. Wonderful colour, sharpness and interesting detail. It really tells a story.
The lines/curves lead our view from the working women along the coastline to the many boats anchored in the bay. Excellent composition. I love this new style!
Angshu (54703) 2006-06-19 0:46
I agree with Mark about your consistent highest quality pictures of yours...great sharpness as usual. What I like is the diagonal perspective of the coastline & the activity going on in the FG. The colours are vibrant & beautiful. Excellent photograph...thanks for sharing!
Paolo (41222) 2006-06-19 11:51

Hi Tan, great composition of this women at work (drying fish? on the slope) and all the fishboats filling the bay. Interesting to see the tide. Lovely light conditions and good contrast.
P.S. Sorry what is not your style on this photo?

marietom (34607) 2006-06-20 3:06
superbement composée et colorée.
ChrisJ (94770) 2006-06-24 1:35
A fantastic daily life scene, with excellent color, sharpness & repetition of the boats.
Stepan (27210) 2006-06-24 2:05
This place is one of my favourite in Viet Nam... The colors, the mood, the air... Everything is OK here and I find that in your compo. The way you "put" the women in the frame is excellent and organizes the space pretty well.
lesfilous (365) 2006-06-28 18:01
Very good POV.
But natural colors ?
arjun_das (1851) 2006-07-05 12:02
Nice landscape with lots of boats around. Good capture of working ladies but I think a closer look on one of them would have made this photo more interesting either.
Didi (54995) 2006-07-07 12:42
Very nice composition of this local way of life; your POV is very well choosen.
I say in French : Un belle vue dominante sur la scène.

Hi Tan. I was checking checking to see if you'd posted anything from your Europe trip yet, when this one popped up at random. I really like this composition - so many boats and interesting detail - especially that red carpet of shrimps being laid out to dry. Cheers . . . David

One of the things I like best about this photo is that at first glance a rainbow pops out - starting with red (pink shrimp), going to yellow, green, then blue (ocean). The way all the lines point to the same area on the left side of the frame makes it work together really well. Reminds me of rays of a rainbow coming from that point.
