Hoi An's famous Japanese Covered Bridge (Cau Nhat Ban or Lai Vien Kieu) connects 155 D Tran Phu with 1D Nguyen Thi Minh Khai. The first bridge on this site was constructed in the 1590s. It was built by the Japanese community of Hoi An in order to link them with the Chinese quarters across the stream. The bridge was constructed with a roof so that it could be used as a shelter from both the rain and sun.
I stood in front of the bridge for several minutes on two occasions, so that I could capture some interesting people coming through it. I probably should have waited a second or two longer before pressing the shutter on this shot, so that these two schoolgirls were nearer the exit, but that will have to wait until I go back to Vietnam again. I also got a nice one with two burden-bearing old ladies, but to my great dismay it somehow became corrupted on the memory card, and only 3/4 of the image will display (although I can see the full image on the camera screen, so I have hopes it may be rescuable, though I've no idea how). I wish I could have stayed longer, but I had to dash off for a dress fitting before catching the bus.
Anyway, so this is the best one I'm left with. I had to do quite a lot of fiddling to lighten up the dark interior of the bridge. |

Hello Charlotte,
I like very much your 2 cute little school girls passing thru our bridge . Your compo and your note very interesting.
What I like less is this fellow on the left. Not really necessary on my opinion.
Nice shot. Thanks.
Jacques
Hi Charlotte!
Wonderful architecture. Very good colors. Original light, sharp and contrast. Good picture.
