Forbidden City in Hue, a lot of ruins and old structures, not many people... I am not very interested in taking photos of buildings so I was looking for some scenes to capture, but it was really hard because there was almost nobody... Then I noticed this interesting passage, and I thought to myself - let's wait here... and that's what I caught after a while. Patience is a good thing...

Absolutely amazing composition, Maciej! Your patience was greatly compensated, indeed. Colors are sensational, as well as the texture of the walls and doors, the expression of the man on the bike. Simply great!

nwoehnl (122) 2004-02-19 5:16
A very ingenious shot, Maciek. This is just perfect: the "view into infinity" when looking straight through all the arches, the great colors and texture all over the place, and the priceless moment of not only having the man on the bike go through the scene, but perfectly looking into your lens. Congratulations on this one, very well done.
Midnight_sun (1941) 2004-02-19 5:21
Outstanding shot. The repeated arches are a photo in themselves, but with a non blurred bike in the middle... excellent.
liakoshim (565) 2004-02-19 5:27
great depth and colours. amazing capture. goes direct into my favourites.
RegisMinot (1543) 2004-02-19 5:27

Well I geuss that that was your meaning when you asked to see a person near my yesterday's bike. This is a great composition, very busy, very detaild, very well captured, but excellent timing. I like this row of gates. Great great job, Maciek.

Patience is a great thing, and it worked perfectly for you here. Fortunately, your timing here was great as well. Would be a shame if you had missed one of the few live subjects to cross your viewfinder that day. Good shot.

I find your photos to be exceptional. Not only that, they are inspirational - full of life, colour and originality. This one is no exception; great framing and a moment perfectly captured. Please keep them coming as I'm sure I'm not the only one here learning from them.

This is a very beautiful shot Maciek! The colors are beautiful, your angle/POV works well and most of all, this has your name all over. This is the kind of shot I am looking forward from you. Great story-quality. Even the green sprouts of grasses work well here. Very good shot. CONGRATULATIONS.
Kenny10pin (19301) 2004-02-19 9:20
Lovely arch passages, it reminds me of the Forbidden Kingdom in China. Anyway, the timing couldnt be any better, I love lady looking at your camera whilst directly in the middle of the arches
scalerman (26900) 2004-02-19 11:08
Excellent framing. All the receeding doors give a good effect of depth. It was a great catch on your part.

I so love this picture!!!!! When I am alone, i can wait.... but if I am traveling with people then I never can wait for a great shot like this. I love all the different gateways!!!!! and the man looking at you! Just perfect!
meeauw (26) 2004-03-04 23:08
wow... you catched a right moment and a right place. is it just a coincidence or you were waiting for so long?
strangiato (10) 2004-03-12 8:20
This is a very interesting capture. A perfect combination of beauty, "the eye", patience and luck. Finding such a place is one thing, waiting for someone to pass another, but the luck of her looking at you is the icing of the cake. It is why you have a wonderful composition and why other don't. Everyone needs a bit of luck. Excellent work Maciek.
taivo (1843) 2004-03-12 11:50
Wow, such great scale of colors and details! I've been to Hue 2x and I wish I could bring home this kind of photos! :) By the way, you almost missed the man on the bicycle! ;-)
AJMOA (930) 2004-03-15 6:46
Muito profissional esta foto, de um gosto extremo.
Parabéns pela foto e pela galeria em geral.
Riz (0) 2004-03-18 17:11
the tunnel effect if you will with all the doorways makes this a very powerful photo. i would change a thing well done.
Steely (895) 2004-03-22 7:49
Archs within Archs with Archs and pastels, centred it would be normal, offset- its outstanding . Nice framing!
ran out of points...:(
Skorj (581) 2004-03-24 1:19
A great travel photograph for sure - and that is supposed to be what we are about here. Great colors, really well framed on a great subject.
1) the bicyclist looking at the camera really engages the viewer.
2) I would have been tempted to clone the small thing on the ground behind the cyclist as it clutters an otherwise clean scene.
Piotr (0) 2004-03-25 6:41
Super kompozycja, doskonałe :-)
RGatward (20062) 2004-03-30 8:37
So you just stood there with camera at the ready waiting for something to fill the frame, what an optimist, and how well rewarded. Anyway, very impressive.
dib (277) 2004-04-02 4:32
wowow, incroyable composition ou tout les elements sont reunis, les teintes et la netteté sont parfaites. bravo
elena (1054) 2004-04-09 1:18
beautiful photo, amazing colors, and needless to say: your patience paid well! I like the dynamism given by those doors, and the eyes go deep into the photo following that path and at the same time follow the horizontal ride of the biker... has a 3D feeling, and it has a timeless characteristic, it could have been taken anytime this century basically....
Wilcodebie (62) 2004-04-20 6:23
Excellent idea. Composition and moment are perfect.
amitai (879) 2004-04-21 16:27
I don't think the biker was necessary, I think the infinite passages would have made a much more abstract out of context frame, which the person automatically narrow to south-east Asia.
I think that the opposite of your note is true, but as a snap shot it's a very good one.
roconnell (327) 2004-05-02 2:49
Wonderful iconic photo. The ochre colored walls from a colonial past and the bicyclist are so reminiscent of Vietnam. The depth and framing are marvellous.
marcind (222) 2004-05-04 4:35
Preaty good moment you captured at this picture. The moment of patience was rewarded. I like few layers of this picture made by the walls and the woman. It is also good that she looked at you at the moment.

rabani (9645) 2004-05-19 6:15
Everything about your photo here, Mac, is pretty textured. The brickworks, the fading paints and the tunnels is simply "too much" :) And as if that isn't enough, you caught the peddlar just in time. Great artwork here Mac.
garcia (254) 2004-05-20 6:20
This framing between entrances is fantastic and the paciencia was valid the penalty exactly therefore was a magnifica photograph, all this is suberba since the colors to the contrast, magnifico, magnifico, magnifico.

KevRyan (22956) 2005-01-20 14:15
what can I say - a good enough photo without the presence of whatever might come along - an excellent photo as you say as a result of your patience. The multi-layering of the walls and the depths this bring in terms of texture, colour and space is wonderful.
fireflyz (2097) 2005-01-21 23:56
Great DOF and POV. I like it so much, added to favorites :)
Well done Maciej!
keribar (43841) 2005-02-08 14:02
What a catch !
Those who have tried to wait and catch
know that it is extremely difficult to do it. Maciej you have found a perfect spot with so many arcades framing each other and a moving guy on a bicycle at the best spot. This picture goes to my favorites
Incredible - Congratulations

A great photo. I will try to find something similar when I go there.
Slighty too much of the wall on the right would centre the archway more. Well done on digital due the delay.

wrangell (23) 2006-09-26 0:53
I think you composed a great photo. Within your frame are so many frames. The squared doorways and arched architecture; there are so many vivid colors.
The best part is the story of getting the photo. It is so much more interesting with the person shown. I forget sometimes that great photos take planning and patience.

Thank you, thank you.

Anyway, this photography is wonderful, bright and inspirational.
batalay (37205) 2009-11-28 20:15
What a superb shot, worthy of even more recognition that it has already received. Your timing was extraordinary, catching the cyclist within a frame, and co-linear with two others. The gorgeous pastel colors of the walls, the depth of field that gives definition from the foreground to the receding distance, the detail in the brickwork... all collaborate like the instruments of a fine orchestra. Warm regards,
MichaelLevy (651) 2009-11-28 20:41
Wonderful picture built on great composition, colors and sharpness.
