Photographer’s Note

this old man was sitting on a boat at the riverside near the market of hoi an, begging for money there. he was laughing all the time which made him appear a little bit crazy but i don't know if he really was. all the tourist which came by took a photo of him.
the composition of the picture is not the best, but i think the old man is worth to be shown.

so joyfull and happy capture :-) wish i would smile when i'm in his age!! my only little critique is the little to tight crop specially at the top, but never mind...

Hi Juliette. Great photo, he seems such a character! Good detail and sharpness and nice handling of light. I think perhaps a little crop from the left may well balance out the composition a bit. Nice work and thanks for sharing.

Hi Julia: who could argue with the expression to be found in this image? Perhaps the compo could've been tweaked for better results - but that's easier said than done, especially when shooting a floating boat. Great image. Perhaps a bit too saturated. best, c

Great shot Juliette. I also photographed this photogenic old man in Hoi An. I think the light was better when I was there, but I like your composition, showing the man's whole body with crossed legs.

Good handling of contrasts. Background highlights the neatness of the foreground.
Taking the man with a profile 3/4 was a good idea.
