Merry Christmas!!!

Halong Bay is one of the most stunning places I have ever been. If travelling to Vietnam do not miss this natural wonder. We also kayaked in the Bay, a really amazing experience. This image was taken from the top of Tip Top Island: a short climb brings you to the top, the views are out of this world.

From The Lonely Planet web page:

Halong Bay, with its 3000 islands rising from the clear, emerald waters of the Gulf of Tonkin, is one of Vietnam's natural marvels. The islands are dotted with innumerable beaches and grottoes created by the wind and waves. Hang Dau Go is the most impressive grotto, a huge cave of three chambers.

Ha Long means 'where the dragon descended into the sea', and refers to a legend about a dragon who created the bay and islands with its flailing tail. There's a modern legendary creature, the Tarasque, said to haunt the area.

Amazing picture Spiros! Beautiful composition and cropping. I love the multitude of gray shades and the sun's rays coming down on this superb archipelago.
Cheers,
Tony

This is beautiful, Spiros! The filtered sun gives the scene a gauzy, ethereal look, perfect for the fairy-tale atmosphere of Halong Bay. I'd agree it's one of the most stunning places I've ever been. It was sunny when I was there, so it's nice to see it with a different kind of beauty. Regards, Ken.

Hi Spiros - wow, spectacular landscape, and rarely seen from above, I asked my excursion to stop at this island but they refused, stopping instead on another island with a dull cave.

Hi Spiros,

ah, the place of my dreams...for so long I wish to travel to Halong, this place full of legends...hopefull one day I will....and images like this make me want to go even more!

Take care, Ivana
