Just as in all other cities in Asia, cyclos are widely available on every corner in Hanoi particularly in the Old Quarter. They are part of chaotic streetscape, popular amongst the local and visitors alike, less expensive and there is no doubt that they are a nice, relaxed and exciting way to get around. Definitely they are much safer than the vulnerable feeling of being on the back of some random guy's 'motobai' (motorbike) though.
So hop onto one of these cyclos and feel part of the crazy street traffic. It is a wonderful way to see Hanoi in style and at a human pace from the roadside, you can hear all the noise and at times it is even nerve-wracking when the rider managed to worm around his way through small gaps in the traffic! Real fun but very educational experience to first-timer.
So enjoy the ride....

You have cleverly created an impression that this slow cyclo is actually a vehicle of high speed. You have actually managed to gvie a "speed blur" on most of the cyclo and parts of the driver but kept his head very sharp. The traffic seen in the background probably looks more hectic than it actually was at that time, but the effect is anyway quite attractive.

A super motion blur picture with the cyclist and cyclo nicely separated from the BG. The orange fabric makes a very nice splash of colour. Very good positioning in the frame - excellent image.
Kind Regards, Ann

bellissimo scatto di vita quotidiana realizzato con la tecnica non facile del panning.
Il risultato mi piace molto per la dinamicità che acquista tutta la scena.
A nice evening

Hello Abmdsudi! Always amazes me that experience! A unique moment that we can live once! because as says Edward Steichen "The mission of photography is to explain man to man and each to himself. And that is the most complicated thing on earth." Wonderful work!

very interesting picture here, and the panning capture was perfect. Great job, my friend.

You're capturing well this streetscape by an excellent tone/clarity, so it's interesting and impressive to see the spectacle that the cyclos is running the street freely. It looks wayward although I thinks that it becomes a hazard to moving traffic with a car. It's impressive in a red backrest and blurred image at right side, too.

I like this daily life shot.
Good frame and colors.
Interesting the effect of motion.

Full of movement in this one, Abmdsudi - nicely panned shot. You've created a sense of the cyclo's movement in and of itself, but also of the driver on it - the feet and legs blurred as he pedals, but with the rest of him clear and still. Nice bright colors on the cyclo and in the surrounding scene. I haven't really attempted any shots like this - what settings did you use you capture it?

here is another wonderful example of panning, the man is almost perfectly clear, while the BG is very obvious movement, very characteristic mode of transport, I really like the colors and light, congratulations for the photographic technique...

Hello dear Abmdsudi
Another great example of panning, perfhaps my favourite of all your panning series. You know doubt had lots of subjects to choose from in this country. I also like the neutral tones and how the red canvas seems to dominate and contrast so beautifully. A wonderfully judged and composed shot. Superb.
CLODO (31606) 2012-09-20 1:14
we feel the motion due to the blurred background, giving a sense a speed; the black "area" behind the tuck-tuck destroys partially the power of your image. Nevertheless, a good catch with interesting camera settings (we don't have them)

a marvellous picture that evokes very effectively a sense of steady movement and, in my opinion, a great sense of fun and freedom. The way the world around the rider is depicted is really fascinating. Shapes and colours look liquid, the composition and framing juxtapose the rider's control and elegance to the dynamic impression of movement. I love the light and movement management, the combination of dark and lighter subdued tones, the effective contribution of the shadows. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great day,

nice the view as the presentation of one of the cyclos as passing by in front of your lans, with the long exposure to makes the image even more effective and adorable.Informative your note as the lot of them circulate in the crazy street traffic of Hanoi.

I suspect you of being a professional photographer or a wise amateur for such a spectacular motion blur, so difficult to realise!
I should practice longer exposures while panning close moving subjects.
Many compliments for the fantastic result.
speedymanu (3587) 2013-01-06 8:35
a great panning effect to allows the main character to stand out while allowing the feeling of movement, of speed to remain very present. It surely takes a lot of talent and practise to achieve such a perfect framing. I also appreciate the tonal palette, with its rich deep dark colors. Bravo, bravo.
Have a nice day,
