The weather & lighting were not kind to me, & the tide was out, but I still thought this was worth a photo. Even a polarizing filter made little difference. Taken from the exit to the Cave of Stakes, or 'Grotte des Merveilles', as it was known to the French.
Halong Bay is a spectacular limestone karst region, in the sea, off the north coast of Viet Nam.

Even when the weather conditions weren´t much on your side it shure was worth a shot. It´s a fine compo, very well framed and the wooden path below is leading the eye into the scenery.Maybe a polarizer would have saturated the colors a bit more and also reduced the reflection on the water?

Just like my actual post, the weather conditions where not good but here we managed very well the situation. I like the scenery, the hazy atmosphere captured and the enquadrement of these elements.

The view is lovely here, so very wide! I can see, like you wrote, that the light was not kind to you, maybe you could have played a bit with the light and contrasts. But the colours are still nice, especially the green tones of the water.

A great site to look at this wonderful place with the circular formation of the mountains. I love those little rock islands with their different tones suggesting depth. The colours are cooling and refreshing. Well done!! All the best.

Yes, still a good seascpae. The little jetty gives some good compositional interest, and the light, in fact, provides a moody sort of atmosphere. Nice one.

These Places are magic and here this is well offered with a nice mood.
Well done for framing with this good pier in the low foreground.
I like it

Hi Chris, A beautiful shot. The picture makes me feel that I am viewing a Chinese painting. Good frame and nice POV. The shape of the mountains and the fog in the distance are showing very nicely. Well done.

Very nice view and intriguing place Chris, must be very special to navigate around these big rocks, thanks for sharing.

Hey Chris. That's too bad about the weather and the tide. We can see how nicely colored the water is and the rocks are beautiful. Too bad about that clarity. It was a good try anyway!

Indeed, the light conditions raised you problems. Still the landscape worth an image as it is very beautiful and attractive. I love all those small islands in the sea which create a mysterious environment.
MoosicMan (1231) 2005-06-27 19:13
It's kind of a surreal shot, almost like a landscape you might see on a hanging Japanese paper scroll. Well done!

the overall tonality of this picture for me is very interesting. I actually think it was a good idea to shoot this, just because it is different, and actually pretty, though I think your contrast for the trees is a bit too high. I love the special lighting here.

Great panoramic take of this rather appealing scenery. That bay I wouldn't mind a bit visiting.
It wasn't sunny, but I kind of appreciate the more gloomy and moody photos. I like your choice of crop with the shrubbery and I especially fancy the little pier. Grand colors and the shine on the surface and the partly visible seafloor .. it's a pleasure to see. Well done, Chris.
Have a fine weekend
PS: You certainly have around a bit (locationwise. Not timewise I mean)
