Photographer’s Note

Ha Long bay is one of the most astonishing places I had the chance to visit during my last trip.
I shot this picture from a viewpoint on one of the islands

The bay consists of a dense cluster of 1,969 limestone monolithic islands, each topped with thick jungle vegetation, which rise spectacularly from the ocean. Several of the islands are hollow, with enormous caves. Hang Đầu Gỗ (Wooden stakes Cave) is the largest grotto in the Ha Long area. French tourists visited in the late 19th century, and named the cave Grotte des Merveilles. Its three large chambers contain large numerous stalactites and stalagmites (as well as 19th century French graffiti). There are two bigger islands, Tuần Châu and Cat Ba, that have permanent inhabitants. Both of them have tourist facilities, including hotels and beaches. There are a number of wonderful beaches on the smaller islands.
Some of the islands support floating villages of fishermen, who ply the shallow waters for 200 species of fish and 450 different kinds of mollusks. Many of the islands have acquired their names as a result of interpretation of their unusual shapes: such names include Voi Islet (elephant), Ga Choi Islet (fighting cock), and Mai Nha Islet (roof). 989 of the islands have been given names. Birds and animals including bantams, antelopes, monkeys, and lizards also live on some of the islands.
Almost these islands are individual towers in a classic fenglin lanscape which height is from 50m to 100m and height/width ratios up to about 6.
Another specific feature of Halong Bay is the abundance of lakes inside the limestone islands, for example, Dau Be island has six enclosed lakes. All these island lakes occupy drowned dolines within fengcong karst.

This is a place where I would love to see with bright sun shine, where I could not in any occasion. Your perfect composition and point of view made me more to imagine what ıt would look like with sun. Thanks.

Ciao Silvio, swembra una battaglia navale. MOlto bella la profondità di campo, con lo sguardo indeciso su dove andare in mezzo agli isolotti che spuntano dal mare. Gran relaizzazione, peccato il cielo troppo bianco

Felice anno nuovo prima di tutti!
Mi auguro che questo anno si pubblica, il quadro è molto positivo soprattutto perché mi piace che mi ricorda quelle immagini tipiche del Vietnam e la sua macchina, o per esempio, mi ricordo l'ultimo film che Rambo stelle Silvestro Stalone.
La foto è nitida e chiara, la luce è semplicemente eccellente.

ti invidio per la grande possibilità che hai di vedere e vivere posti così suggestivi.
Sembra di stare sul set di un film, come se da un momento all'altro dovesse accadere qualcosa, è la grande forza delle belle foto a darci queste sensazioni.

Ehilà, che traffico da quelle parti!
Buona foto di viaggio, conosco bene queste formazioni calcaree, forse quelle che preferisco sono nelle Filippine, più che altro per il contesto naturale attorno.
Molto bravo, atendiamo gli altri scatti del tuo ultimo trip.

Proprio strabiliante questo posto, come hai detto tu, e ti invidio per esservi andato. Ricorda un'altra località della Cina, con questi isolotti ricoperti di vegetazione...
Per me ha un doppio interesse, quello paesaggistico e per le bellissime imbarcazioni di fattura locale, molto suggestive.
Hai fatto un giro in barca? Quel groviglio di isole in fondo appare molto invitante. Esotismo puro... bellissima.

mmmhhhh... non ci avevano girato un film di James Bond da queste parti..? o era in Cina? mah...
comunque - che posto... sembra una cartolina!
mi piace molto il taglio, che include le barche e gli isolotti (forse avrei dato una scurita al cielo...).
la luce e' stranissima - non riesco a capire che ora era quando hai fatto la foto... pomeriggio?

Wow, what a post card this would be. We just don't really send post card anymore, do people still do that. I find most people just e-mail. This is a fantastic shot and dream place. Fabulous landscape from a well chosen high pov allowing to have an idea of the 'marine traffic jam'! I like to see the karsts fading in the far. I think there is a slight tilt to the right...

Ciao Silvio, Fantastic scenery & very different to what we see in Italy, there so many unusual looking & boats. I like the framing & natural looking colour, I also like the misty look about it, I think it adds atmosphere.

Insomma mentre noi eravamo in quel di Spoleto a fare un meeting "provincialotto" tu eri immerso in questa bellezza, invidia al 100%.
