[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
one of the many things i feel lucky about in my life is that i never had to serve in any army, under any flag. these less fortunate guys were doing some marching exercises just outside ngo mon gate of hue's citadel, taking advantage of the few minutes when the pouring rain stopped.

sorry, very busy lately, trying hard to get back to asia, hopefully soon....

Excellent composition – and perfect timing. I especially like that you framed in the truck. Nice combination of red and green tones, too. Very-very well done, Mark.

Hi Mark
I like the compo with the car on the left. You have made a real armyshot here.
Good colours and POV and DOF.
-greetings Albrecht-

Hi Mark,
Perfectly framed shot - rare to see shots of the army on mameuvers in V-nam. An excellent, first rate capture with the truck anchoring the shot on the left and that pagoda (farmhouse?) structure in the far distance.
Bravo!
Francis

Hi Mark,
Wow!! So symetric! Your framing is just perfect for me..We can see lot of the context around those men.
Nice contrast and colors.

Hi Mark.
About your note, let me say that you are very lucky.
And about the photo, interesting POV and composition. The light and the colour are good too.
Nice work.

Regards.

Hi Mark, A superb and very clean shot and I totally agree with Naxius, perfect composition for this scene: everything is just right in place. I very much like the expression of the second guy in the first row, it's funny. Enjoy the preparations for your next travel to Asia (I should get started with mine!) Sabine

Hi Mark.
Incroyable l'effet de ce camion en gros plan sur le bord....cadrage excellent, à part peut-être le pied coupé sur la droite.
Belle symétrie et des teintes harmonieuse.
Le ciel est blanc, dommage, mais t'y peux rien.

The perspective, the pov is a killer (hope these soldiers won't be), Mark. Good to see your shots again. An exquisite tonality and clarity.
Perfect shot, superbly seen

Nice repetion of shapes ;o)

A fine POV too using the front of the truck as framing and ambience.

Mark,

Beautiful, beautiful shot (for all the reasons already given).

Personally, my favourite part is the style in which the soldiers are marching, which you've captured so well. That goose-stepping look is a terrifying thing (no matter what army does it), and yet these guys manage to execute it with a grace that makes it almost delicate looking, as though all the dancers at the Vietnamese national ballet had been drafted into the army one day. It's beautiful and frightening all at once, and you've timed it so that we see them just at the apex of their dance.

Really nice capture. Good luck on your next voyage!

Lee

P.S. And amen to your gratitude for not having had to serve in the military. I second that.

Dear Mark,
Nice shot. I like the gaze of the men in the first row even if I don't really like army in general...
TFS, regards
Fabien

Hi Mark, I was looking at your nice Vietnam pics. This one is superb, almost taken from a by-gone era. Great compo, esp. the temple in the background. Thanks for sharing!!!
By the way, I like your "intro" very much
Cheers :)
Daniel

Mark, you have travelled in many places - how great for you. This is a good POV seeing the soldiers doing their thing. Yes, I am so pleased that my sons never had to go into service or fight a war too.
Very interesting scene, TFS
