Parts of Vietnam are perhaps best seen by bicycle. I rented one in Hue, and rode out into the countryside for a few hours, across the rice paddies into small villages strung out along canals and rivers. Not a lot of tourists get to these villages, so the children are very curious if one stops to look around or take a photo. Here two are leaning in to be part of the photo.
This family (at least, I'm guessing they were a family) was washing what appeared to be snails in the wicker baskets, and laying them out on the riverbank. Maybe someone can tell me whether "snails" is a plausible guess here.

It is like a window to a different piece of life. Very interesting.

Lovely composition, you captured the family working but it could be a picnic. Great colors like a painting. Good light and sharpness.

very nice daily life capture. The quality could be better but still a good photo. I like it.
Yes, I'm sure they are snails because I collected many myself, but not in Vietnam, in Cambodia. With some cambodian friends, we went to khmer new year party with thousands on the river side far from the city and I was the only foreigner among them as far as I saw. We collected them and took home to use in the soup.. No I didn't eat the soup but had fun collecting them from the bottom of the river. Thanks for posting and bringing back good memories for me.. :)

Hi Ken. Good daily life composition. They look like water snails to me. The Vietnamese eat them in a dish called Bon Oc (water snails in rice vermicelli). In the Mekong Delta these water snails can be host to the schistosoma parasite (a nasty one which causes worms in the blood vessels) but as I note you took this in Hue, no need to worry if you ate any! Good exposure under what looks like could have been difficult lighting conditions. Cheers . . . David
